Salt water

Has anyone ever noticed how great everyone's hair is that goes to the beach, especially surfs alot. I hardly see any surfer losing their hair.
I surfed a few times a week at Playlinda Beach in Florida a couple years ago, I remember my hair just looked awsome and had no shedding problems at that time. Maybe the natural salt water has a lot to do with it? Sometime after I stopped surfing I started to lose my hair. I stopped surfing because after 9-11 the government shut the beach down because it was so close to NASA. Bummer, I loved that beach, now I'm in Oregon. It's just not the same.

i have surfed for 5 years and continue to surf today, i suffer from male pattern baldness, i dont think counting on salt water is a good idea to combat hairloss :)

i think the idea of perfect looking beach goers is just implemented in the propaganda that hollywood sells us all and you have bought into like so many others :)

Natural salt water has a LOT of beneficial properties, but male pattern baldness is genetic...has nothing to do with scalp health or anything like that. But you can try. However, mortons salt in a pan of lukewarm water will do you no good. Theres hundreds of thousands of other things in natural salt water.

For what it's worth, Kelly Slater is a friend of a friend, and was ranked the # 1 surfer in the world a few years back... and he's quickly losing his hair. Diffuse thinning all over the top.

I wasn't suggesting putting salt water in your hair at home. Just from going out surfing, I recall seeing alot less guys losing their hair. Maybe it's some of us guys that are just worried about getting it wet in front of the laddies. But hey, the hunny's don't care as long as your ripping it up. Ah, how I miss the warm water. Cheers.

Dreamatek - what part of Oregon are you in? I was at Cannon Beach yesterday and although beautiful, I agree it's not the same as the So. Cal. beaches I grew up on when it comes to actually going in the water.

Kauai, here I come.

Actually, if you could find "nice clean salt water" in an ocean beach and test it, you would likely cringe at what is swimming in the water. Here in SoCAL, the impurities/polutants in our beach water is one of the many reasons why surfers use wet suits. The water is for sh*t.

So, I don't think the salt water here would be a good idea EVEN if someone came up with lab data that suggests that it worked on male pattern baldness>

Hey HairLossTalk.com,

Someone like Kelly Slater is in the spotlight often. Do you know if he concerned about or fighting his male pattern baldness? I'm just wondering from a psychological standpoint if people with that much confidence and success care about their balding as much as the "common man".

Yes, Kelly is beyond freaked out about it. He shaved his head because of it, and it only made it more obvious. He's really upset, but somehow he still is able to have sex with Pamela when she's inbetween boyfriends (this coming from firsthand knowledge mind you, they were at my friends house not too long ago together) ... so I don't think the girls are losing interest just yet.

ha, doesn't the guy have a game out by activision? i'm sure he's made a lot of money through surfing, also. i actually saw a picture of him not too long ago, and was surprised how much hair he lost. anyway, someone in his social standing really shouldn't worry about losing hair. he's an athlete of types, not a movie star.

Salt water make hair look a lot thicker and strong. Do you think its a good idea to rinse after shampooing with warm salt water?
