Rogaine: what side-effects did you notice?

I'm considering taking some Rogaine foam to accelerate my hair regrowth.

For those who've taken it, did they notice any side-effects?

I keep reading on this forum that some people go through acute shedding after starting hair loss treatments, does this apply to Rogaine or is it more for things like finasteride?

If you overdose on Rogaine like me, you might feel fatigued. One side effect you won't see on Rogaine label is that it probably gives you dark circles.

But again, I overdose a little on Rogaine. If you use the recommended amount, you probably won't experience any side effects.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop using minoxidil topical (the active ingredient contained in Rogaine) and seek emergency medical attention:

  • an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
  • chest pain;
  • irregular or very fast heartbeats;
  • dizziness or lightheadedness; or
  • fainting.
Continue to use minoxidil topical and talk to your doctor when it is convenient if you experience

  • itching, redness, dryness, or flaking of the scalp; or
  • a headache.

Swollen eyes, wrinkles, impotence, penis fell off, the mad cow disease... The list goes on and on... LOL

Oh no. Minoxidil is a very safe drug.

I have never observed any shedding after jumping on minoxidil. Neither on the 2%, nor on 5% version. The only exception was the 15% version that destructed my hair.

But you should reckon with it. Unless you use the high strengths (10+ %), which are a Russian roulette, you don't have to be afraid. The 5% version can't damage your hair and it will grow back again.

I would have minor headaches when I applied it on wet scalp a few years ago.

This time when I restarted with rogaine foam after a break of few years, I got bloodshot eyes, dark under eye circles and heavy head. I am trialling it out for a few more days and if the sides persist then I will drop it and start capillogain.

I have been on Indo for a few weeks and it seems to be doing something in terms of a reducing sheds.....

I'm starting it in a week and the whole sunken face thing scares the hell out of me. I've already shedded from Nizoral so hopefully the shed won't be too bad.

SDK, I would suggest you give a try. If you do get the reported sides than do not continue beyond a week...
