Why so many on this forum say rogaine does not interfere with the fundamental balding process when we don't even understand the process itself? I see on here all the time that "DHT this and DHT that" but if that were the case, why do many doctors say minoxidil can slow or stop the balding process?

Minoxidil is a Potassium channel opener which dilates the blood vessels/ hair follicles and increases the thickness of the hair strand. It does not block DHT which is the main cause of balding. Minoxidil keeps the hair in growth phase but dosent stop the hair follicles from getting attacked by DHT. You need to take Finasteride or Dutasteride for that.

Then why have the three doctors I have seen say minoxidil can maintain hair for years?

Pfft. Then I would say they are full of ****. Try for yourself and see.
Look man, if you are just another 'only minoxidil' person, then I don't have anything to explain to you. Either take Finasteride along with minoxidil and keep your hair long term or decide using only minoxidil and keep losing hair by getting few hairs during initial treatment phase.

This forum is full of those sorts of people it's annoying, especially as 90% of them are just "too scared" to try finasteride, they haven't even actually tried it yet.

So I'll tell you what my dermathologist (friend of my father, which is also a doctor) told me: without finasteride ill be bald sooner than later, minoxidil if you are lucky can even regrow for 1 or 2 years, but after that, the balding is unavoidable. He is bald, and while talking he told me that if when he was starting to bald (he is almost 60 now, started at early 20`s) finasteride existed, he would had taken it for sure.

1. The side effects of Finasteride are real. Most commonly these include - ED,low libido and low amount of ejaculate.
2. During the clinical studies the sides were found to occur in 2% populations. I don't knowhow reliable that number is.
3. The side effects are most of the time psychological. Only a small minority gets these side effects which go away after you stop the drug but some say they cause permanent side effects. They are a huge minority of the very tiny minority getting side effects. You would have a more chance of getting killed by a truck rather than getting sides on Finasteride.
4. The sides are greatly exaggerated over the net by some jobless pathetic fear mongers. Finasteride is a safe and well tolerated drug with a superb safety profile.

When i first read about Finasteride I didn't even consider it in my hairloss treatment options. I went straight to Rogaine just to realise it stopped working after 6-7 months. Because I love my hair more than the fear of small risk of side effects, I jumped on Finasteride and thanks to the Almighty, I have zero sides yet.
My advice : Get on Finasteride. Take 1mg. Not more not less. That's the recommended dosage. Playing with the dosage will do your body more harm than good. If by some miracle you do get sides, just lower the dosage or stop the drug.
Don't sit and contemplate whether to take Finasteride or no meanwhile losing hair. And if you do start it later in life, the biggest regret you will have is not starting the miracle drug earlier.

Yeah man I know. They have this blind faith in minoxidil that it just outweighs Finasteride. Hope they realise their mistakes when they are forced to shave their heads for good.

In my twenties I was a NW1, and I didn't even really need finasteride until later in life. I did it with Minoxidil. Stop thinking that everybody is going to have the same response as you.

And yes, I'll be happy to send you pictures of when I was 29, with a NW1 hairline. And some men really do respond well with minoxidil. Is it as good as Finasteride, no.

But even finasteride won't regrow temple hair (very rarely, I posted a link to fifty men who take it on this board. All had good results with Finasteride. But only TWO regrew any temple hair. The one was Asian. I don't know the raise of the other, but he was not white.

And honestly, why do you care so much what other people take? If they don't want to take finasteride, that's their business, not yours.

I don't tell you, or anybody else what medication they should take. That is an individuals choice.

Do u use propecia?

Liquid finasteride. And I have to say this. On my right side, I am even seeing temple regrowth. But I am not seeing very much on my left side (which hasn't receded as much as my right).

I posted another link to fifty people on finasteride. They did get good regrowth on the front center of their head. But as far as the temple area, only two responded. Neither were white (that's the race I am). So oral finasteride doesn't make me optimistic about finasteride hair regrowth. But liquid and oral were proven to be almost identifical, in a government study (however, only 45 men participated).

How long did minoxidil alone keep your hair
