Rogaine - generic or brand name...?

I'm about to start on propecia. I'd like to start using Rogaine as well. How many of you use the generic version? Where is the best place to get it? Thanks!

It's the same ingredient, so get generic. I'd go ebay - kirkland or something. I don't know if I'd go propecia and minoxidil all at once, though. I'm doing propecia and nizoral myself.

You live in the states so I'd say KMart or Walmart or any such store. Don't buy name brand Rogaine, it's twice as much as generic. I buy mine at KMart and get American Fare 5%, it's 22 bucks for two months worth (2 bottles). Any brand that's 5% minoxidil is fine, get the cheapest you can find.

Thanks for the info. Since I'm just starting propecia, should I hold off on minoxidil for now? What is the reasoning behind this? Thanks again.

I've heard people on this forum say its a good thing to hold off on the minoxidil and use Propecia to maintain what you have, then when it starts to wear off jump on minoxidil to get a few extra years out of it.

I got on both of them right away, minoxidil works great.

It's a pain in the *** though, and a long-term (lifelong unless a "cure" for male pattern baldness comes about) commitment. Twice a day, has to sit on your scalp for 3 hours before you can wash it off.

I live in Australia and normally use - Rogaine but one month the chemist only had a generic brand called Hair a Gain so I bought it. First thing I noticed after using it the first time is that there was no saftey seal/ cap on the bottle :roll: so anyone could have tampered etc with it...

I persisted in using it for 2 and a half months with little confidence and eventually quit convinced my regime was going backwards...

I guess some generic minoxidil brands are as good if not better than Rogaine but if the bottle isn't even sealed when you buy it how can you even feal confident with the product.....
