rogaine foam

Just started using rogaine foam 3 weeks ago. I have tried the liquid rogaine two years ago but it gave me really bad dermatitis so I stopped after a week. I was told that the propelyne glycol was irritating my scalp. Anyway when I heard that the foam doesn't contain PPG, I ordered some. I have been using the foam for 3 weeks and no dermatitis or irritation, where as two applications of the liquid would result in itchy red flaky scalp.

Also the foam seems to be improving the scalp's overall condition. I always had a few itchy bumps or sores on my head like acne, but since using the foam there is no itch at all and my scalp is smooth and no sores.

The foam turns into oil in about a minute and then dries after about 5 minutes. But I have noticed that on cold mornings the foam doesn't want to melt as easily as on warm mornings so I am a bit sceptical as to how much is penetratring. So what I am doing is melting the foam in the cap with hot water running on the outside of the cap and then using the dripper that I got with the liquid minoxidil to apply to the scalp. I am hoping for better absorption this way and less waste and because it's the foam formula it still dries fast.

One thing I have noticed by doing this is that the directions say to use half a cap. When I melt down half a cap, and transfer to the dripper, this is ONLY 0.5mls!!!
I know from the 5% liquid minoxidil/rogaine, that we are meant to apply 1ml twice a day. But if you are applying half a cap of foam twice a day, this is only 0.5ml's twice a day, which is only half the recommended dose!!!
Could this be why many people on this website are not seeing great results with the foam?

I am melting down a full cap which is 1 ml in the dripper and am using this.

Will let you now how I go.

Also, the company making the foam should use the same fast drying, non-irritating ingredients in the foam and supply the product in liquid form.

Melting down the foam into liquid does not make it equivalent to the liquid.

1/2 cap full of the foam contains 50 mg of minoxidil which is the equivalent of 1 ml of the liquid.

One full cap of the foam is twice the recommended dosage and contains 100 mg of minoxidil.

this is true. and its not bad to use less than 1ml if you were using liquid minoxidil. i use 1ml of my liquid minoxidil and its more than enough to cover my entire scalp. but this is due to shaving my head and not having the hair itself absorb a lot of it. i think peapoddy said in one of his posts that he uses 3ml per application.

I thought that they were both 5% minoxidil? So you are saying that half a cap of foam which is 0.5ml is the same as 1 ml of liquid? That would make it 10%.

Or maybe the process of melting it down, I am loosing some quantity?

I really like the foam, but I would preffer it in liquid with the same ingredients.

They are both 5% minoxidil, but the foam is not meant to be a liquid. There is approximately 60 grams of the foam in each bottle, so I'm assuming that each gram (which would be half capful) contains 50 mg of minoxidil which is the equivalent of 1 ml of the liquid.

OK. I get it.
Foam is measured in grams and the liquid is measured in mls.
Depending on the substance, 1 gram is usually not equal to 1 ml.

In other words, I've been using s#%tloads. No wonder I've got a slight headache.
