Rogaine and propecia.

I wanted to start out by thanking everyone today. I kind of had a tiny meltdown, but I think I'm learning to cope with the fact that my hair is beginning to thin. Well, my question is this: I get that people are completely for propecia, but like I mentioned, I had very bad side effects from it in the past while taking it for something very different. I was wondering if it is okay for me to try Rogaine for a while, and if it works, just try it as long as I can until it quit working as most people seem to say it does eventually. Then I could try the propecia again because I believe I was on a pretty high dose and that could be why. So yeah, the actual question is if with me taking the Rogaine and it helps, it won't be too late to take the propecia when it quits working right? Because I know they help by doing two different things. I would keep taking the Rogaine as I started the propecia if that makes sense.

Rogaine does not stop hair loss, it only brings out follicles in the resting phase. Any follicles that are giving up due to DHT are still goners. BTW how long were you on finasteride and at what dosage?
I'm not trying to be a dick, but literally every resource and scientific study I've read about Minoxidil states that it does help not only stop or slow hair loss, but also thicken it as well. Not only that, but scientists themselves don't even know exactly how it works to this day, so please stop spreading misinformation.

As far as dosage, I'm not sure, , but I think it was like 10mg a day, and I think I was on it for about a year.

Rogaine definitely will slow the progression of balding. It may not be nearly as effective as Propecia however I do not believe for a second it does not slow hairloss in almost everybody. I think a vast majority of us are predisposed to bald quite aggressively so those are the cases where it appears that Rogaine isnt slowing down the balding even when it is.

it's not misinformation, they have done scalp biopsies to prove it.
For starters, they wouldn't have to do said biopsies and second, I'm sorry but not a single company on earth could or would for that matter do a large enough amount of biopsies to prove that one way or the other (a few biopsies proves nothing), especially since a biopsy isn't even needed to show if the hair has thickened or not. What you're saying makes no sense. I mean if I'm missing something, just please explain further.

You were taking quite a large dose (10 mg) so the changes of sides was REALLY high. I think you should try 1 mg and see how that does for you.

But at the same time, do you guys think maybe he is just having a crazy shed from coming off 10 mg?

I agree with a lot of what your saying Peqoud. Rogaine does not do anything for DHT. Finasteride and even Duasteride don't stop* hairloss in some cases. However they obviously are far better at stopping hairloss than doing nothing or going on rogaine. I have just seen enough reports online, and even in myself have noticed that Rogaine has slowed down my hairloss. I believe the exact mechanism of Rogaine isn't completely clear yet (aside from the fact we know it does not effect DHT). An interesting study I just read actually stated that using 2% ketoconozole shampoo along with 5% rogaine yielded better results than just using 1mg Finasteride. Which I found pretty interesting. So OP add in 2% keto along with your rogaine and you should in theory get better results than using finasteride alone anyways.

But let's say that you're right, and you may be. It's not worth the time right now, but if you are, wouldn't the finasteride help make up for the difference when rogaine begins losing effectiveness?

What's funny is that I was prescribed Keto a while back for a rash I had. I'll definitely try it for my hair.

Last question. Do you guys think it's bad to wait a little longer from where I'm at now to see if keto and the others will help? If I see any hair loss or thinning, I will definitely get on finasteride. Is that okay from where I'm at?

What do you guys think? Based on the image above, would I be okay to just try imox and keto for now, and if it doesn't get worse, maybe try propecia later? If it does get any worse though, immediately get on it.

It seems to me like your anxious about the whole situation. I was like you when I first realized I was having hairloss. I was scared out of my mind to try propecia however I was petrified to lose my hair. A lot of people on here use propecia so they will recommend you jump on it out of their own bias. You can find many reports of Rogaine slowing hairloss down alone, see : Joe Rogan , Two brothers prove Rogaine works, my own personal logs. In addition their are clinical studies for keto shampoo. I would strongly advice you take just those two products for a few months. Then if you really start to feel like your losing hair and you can't take it, jump on propecia. I bet your worried that if you don't take propecia all of a sudden your going to lose too much hair and it will be too late for you. That's how I felt. I just think do to your mental state you will regret taking propecia regardless of side effects.

You haven't done anything for your hairloss up until this point in your life. Give yourself some time with two clinically proven products and relax a bit. You will have plenty of time to jump on propecia if you feel you are losing hair again. Take pictures every few weeks for a reference point.

Thats really a difficult scenario to ask advice on. We dont know how your hairloss will progress. The scenario could happen when minoxidil helps, but it still isnt stopping dht which isnt a good thing. Or your hairloss could progress rapidly and you could wish you tried finasteride earlier....My guess would be if you tried minoxidil and worked for two years but eventually stopped working is that you would be below baseline from two years ago. Basically your scenario with minoxidil stopping its effect would probably bring you below baseline before you realized it wasnt working anymore. We cant definitely tell you propecia will make up that lost ground.

The main problem with minoxidil is that it just isnt as effective as propecia for most people. minoxidil can maintain but from what I've read, but propecia is more successful. Usually people are either really great responders for minoxidil or it doesnt do anything. The majority seem to fall in doesnt do anything. Seems like most young guys dont have that much success with minoxidil. It could work for you who knows. The forum holds alot of valuable information if you read it. Alot of people regret not trying finasteride earlier.

I havent read any scientific studies but you said earlier scientist dont know how it works, which I think is the main problem with minoxidil. Seems like they cant build off of it to make it more effective if they dont know what is going on.

Propecia just appears to have more success stories and is easier by taking a pill than topical application twice a day. I didnt want to take any chances so I went right for propecia once I got serious about treatment. I use minoxidil because it seems to relieve the itch at my hairline but I havent seen much results.

Hi everyone!
Been reading post here. Pretty new to all this hairloss talk. Great that everyone is contributing with their stories and experiences. Really great forum.
I wondered if someone could help out with some basic things hehe
What is the difference between Propecia and Rogaine and are those two part of what I often read on this forum the "top three"?
How does one go about getting Propecia? Is there only one generic dosage or? Can it be bought over the counter or only if prescribed by a GP? Or a specialised doctor. I live in Germany so no idea where I could get it. I doubt I could go to my GP. He wouldnt know anything about hairloss.
I read about side effects of Propecia but understand its only a small minority who experience it. I havent been on this forum for a long time. Do members of the forum complain about side effects?
Thanks a lot.

Regards

My problem is that I have taken propexia before, but for my prostate. I truly believe that it cause the massive dry eye issues that I still suffer from today (I did a lot of research at the Tim, and it has been known to cause it). Can't keto help with DHT without the side effects of propecia because it isn't a pill??

Dude like I said before, I think you should try it again. You were taking a large amount (10 mg) so I think the sides were bound to happen with that amount. I think you should try it again with 1 mg.
