Rogain AND Propecia

First, a little info -- I'm 29. I've always had thin hair. My father was bald. When I was 23 and in the military, I shaved my head to the scalp. While 95% of my hair grew back, it was at that point that I noticed I was starting to lose hair.

I recently, and finally, went to my dermatologist regarding my hair loss.

He put me on Propecia AND Rogain. I'm using the Rogain foam twice a day.

My question is, is this safe? Effective?

I'm concerned because since my doctor visit (middle February) it seems like I'm losing more hair..... or at least my thining hair is much much more noticeable.

How long will it be before I start noticing results?

no need to worry, you're just going through the infamous first minoxidil shed. Usually happens around the 3rd week or so. You'll start to see results within a few weeks.

And many people use rogain and propecia at the same time, they don't interfere with each other.

Thanks a lot.

I had a few more questions but didn't want to flood the board with another thread.

1. All the hair I've lost during this "shed" will come back, right? And is there somewhere I can read about the shed. My doctor didn't mention anything about that.

2. I know it takes about a year to see results with propecia, but how long with Rogain?

3. Generally speaking, how long does it take for hair to grow? Isn't it something like 1/4 an inch per month?

LTF:

When I was using Minoxidil (the primary ingredient in Rogaine), I started seeing new peach fuzz after only a couple of months. After three months, my hair looked thicker and healthier.

But overall, everyone reacts differently -- after four months, though, I'd say you'll probably see something.

Good luck and hang in there!

hey, i have one question about minoxidil also. we need to use twice a day to see best results. my questions is.

1. if you use it twice a day, do you wash your hair twice a day? i am saying this becouse i use gel in my hair and in the second application my hair will be with gel. i need to wash isnt it?

2. two wash a day can it make bad thing to your hair? isnt it two many washes?

3. can i expect to recover all the hair i have lost using minoxidil? i still have amount of hair.

4. how many years will it work? i am asking this becouse i am in propecia since 2 years ago and it stopped working from me :( i am very disapointed becouse i see f*****g graphs about propecia saying that it work by 5 years....

5. question about propecia, is it possible that my system have be used to this and it stoped working? if i stop it for a while, and than beggin again, can it beggin to wok again?

Have you tried using just the Rogain foam and not gel? Reason I ask is I used to use gel as well. Then I tried to foam, and it does a decent job styling and holding my hair. I haven't used gel since.

Give yourself 8 months on both before you start tinkering with your combo. My car looked great in month 2, got a little shedding in month three, and now it's looking even better. Be patient. Remember hair only grows so fast.
