Ritalin and ADHD Alert!!!!

If your like me and suffer from ADHD beware of central nervous system stimulants such as Ritalin and its many forms. I noticed after 2 weeks on the medication that I started to shed really bad, a few weeks later I noticed the center part of my hairline receding badly. It got really dry and flaky and started to itch. There are almost no hairs left on it, but I can still see the follicle holes, luckily I can comb my hair over it and it is hardly noticable at this time. Since I have been on this medication the hair recesion in that region has become frightening. Though for some reason it is only in the frontal hair line not the crown or rest of my head.

I was cautious before starting the medication but my Psychiartrist assured me that hairloss was not a problem. He was wrong and I have the proof.

Before I started the Meds around January, my hair was in excellent shape and the best it had been since starting Propecia and minoxidil 1.3 years ago. It was so good infact that my stylist was able to cut it shorter than ever before with no real indication of hairloss. Thick and full and I was very satisfied with the results I had achieved, now I am in deep sh*t and hope that stopping the meds will help the hair come back.

This is just what I was afraid of and it pissed me off that I was assured this woulnd't happen. Recently doing research reavealed lots of hairloss horor stories while taking this medication- posted all over the net.

Ritalin seems to slow bloodflow to the scalp thus causing a recession oddly enough in the front center hairline. Several people reported this and it happened to me as well.

If your a hairloss recipeint who suffers from ADD beware before you take medications it could cause hairloss.

Anyone with any info on this subject specifically Brian or HairLossTalk.com please let me know as my progress seems to have just gone down the shitter.

That sucks man. Ya gotta watch out for doctors these days, you can pretty much be assured that an internet search will generate more info than they know about any medical subject - unless they really stay on top of their sh*t ( i.e. the top 1% ).

I bet if you explain what you found to this doctor they will get defensive and treat you like sh*t because of their know it all attitude and massive ego.

Hopefully in time your gains will come back.

ADHD

Redbone - my son and I have ADHD. We try to eat very few sweets and white flour products. Also, I give him a product called "Calm Child" which helps him IMMENSELY in school. It's an all natural product with no side effects from what I have been able to tell.

Thanks, I saw an ad for calm child and it looked pretty promising. Just as you guys suspected I contacted two Psychiatrist after posting this message and they both stated hair loss with Ritalin is highly unlikely, Bullshit tell that to the 1"x1" recession in the center of my forhead that appeared in less than a month and a half.

Anyone with any info on this subject please tell your story. I need help making my decision as I really need these meds to get along daily, but I value my hair more.

Stop taking it. Ritalin is an amphetamine right? there are other amphetamines that you could take such as desoxyn or dexadrine i think, but these also are forms of amphetamine so not sure if the side effect will be the same.

That is a tough call. Stop taking it and be a ranting, raving fool that people can't stand or go bald what a choice. There has to be an easier way. :freaked2:
