Rinsing with warm water before applying topicals.

There has been discussion lately, regarding the effect that cold or warm water can have on skin.

Cold water is said to increase circulation and close skin pores and warm to open them.

A dampened scalp is more permeable, and since towel dried could enhance the absorption of topical agents. (beware of a racing heart those of you using minoxidil)

I was wondering if a warm rinse before applying minoxidil could further enhance it's absorption.

I would like to hear your thoughts.

I usually use topicals right after warm shower.

I usually do this too. Sometimes though I finish my shower with a cold blast of water and I was wondering what effect could this have to topical absorption.

Warm water is supposed to open up your pores and such, hence the sauna making you sweat like a pig. I'm guessing taking a warm shower and then using the laser comb with also seems to induce bloodflow(from experience) in the scalp would be the best time to have absorption.

I find wetting my hair (not too wet) before applying the topical solution seems to lessen the collateral absorption of the solution into the hairs themselves, instead of all going into the scalp.

The way I do it my hair is only a little wet, and is wetter than my scalp. It'd be interesting to hear from someone who knows more about the process of the topical being absorbed through the skin cells.

I thought you had to apply all topicals to DRY hair? e.g minoxidil

Wet scalp = better absorption, higher risk of systemic over absorption (and side effects)

Dry scalp - reduced absorption, lower risk of systemic over absorption (and side effects)

make your choice !
