Just read about this. What is the consensus? Can it be effective as an alternative for someone who doesn't want to take finasteride?

Is there any solid evidence that it can work?

No, it's not that good. It might be worth adding in addition to a few other topicals like: nizoral and minoxidil etc. But it's pretty week by itself.

As a shampoo is it believed to work at all? Are there any studies which show that it can work?

I will never use propecia and minoxidil didn't work for me. So I use nizoral 1-2 times per week but i suppose it could be good to add something else provided it didn't cause any side effects.

Hey jd, I am curious, do you think nizoral is helping you? How? I ask you in particular because it seems that you are using nizoral only...

Yetti... i don't know to be honest. I used it for a couple of years and my hair loss didn't get noticeably worse.. i stopped using it for about 6 months and i felt that my hair loss had become worse so have started again. That could just be coincidence though, i don't know. Some studies suggest it may help slightly.

male pattern baldness genes are strong in my family...most the men have hair loss and it really started around the age of 30-35...i am nearly 32 now. I really would like to add something else if it helps and doesnt give sides but i just will never use propecia...i can't change my hormones for hair. Will shave my hair short ahead of doing that.

I totally understand you about the propecia. I actually bought a year's supply of finasteride, took 1 quarter of 1 pill, reconsidered, threw 'em out, and decided to go on minoxidil. This was a couple of months ago. Not sure about the future but I may never try it again... waiting to see how min works out.

So like you I'd be into adding something else if it would help. On this board "the big three" is often discussed, meaning of course finasteride, min and nizoral. From what I can tell, it should be the big two, min and finasteride, and nizoral should be one of the "strong maybes". I guess the "strongest maybe". Hm

I use Revivogen serum, shampoo and conditioner like dht blocker and Minoxidil 0.5% for stimulation of regrow. For 2 and half months good results. On both absorption is 4 hours and in reality need clean and dry scalp so ...it is daily work to be done properly extremely hard to follow.I am for now staying away from propecia.Vellus hair have grown on bold areas big time. Here is picture: sk.jpg

Interesting slodok, if the Revivogen keeps you stable, you could be a good candidate for a Hair Transplant, while using the revivogen to maintain what you have. I was able to get about 4 months out of my (3 month supply), they say once stable you don't need to use everyday.

Yeah I am the first person to agree with people about not wanting to take propecia. Its not nearly as automatic a solution as many people like to say in the hundreds of debates over how safe it is. The real big problem though is for the hundreds of cutting edge treatment threads there is still nothing that can replace propecia for effectiveness. If you dont stop androgens your going to go bald, and I have a hard time believing nizoral+ minoxidil would stop male pattern baldness for most people. I tried topical spironolactone, the revivogen stuff. None of it did anything for me, and my male pattern baldness is very mild and slow. So if you have major male pattern baldness your toast without propecia or something stronger
So its like a war you cant win without it so you have to make a deal with the devil

Propecia is not an option for me. I can't go around feeling hazy, with a dead dick the rest of my life.
However there is also CB-03-01 and RU. So I'm not giving up.

Yeah experimentals like that might be a good option in that case. You have to stop androgens though to have any chance. Sadly minoxidil/nizoral dont do that

Well revivogen is crap anyway. I tried it. My crown was still balding away using that.

I've been using revivogen daily for 2.5 years. It helped me noticeably for a year, maybe a year and a half, but since then I've started losing hair again gradually. The stuff does help, but it's definitely not the most effective thing out there.
