Revivogen vs Spectral RS

Both are similiar priced, both have mixed reviews. Iv'e been using RS for roughly three months, had to drop minoxidil after about a year and a half due to sides.
Now trying to find a good topical combo to fill that void.

I use Spectral RS in morning, and spironolactone at night.
Soon will probably become revivogen in morn, and prox-n + spironolactone at night unless someone can tell me otherwise

RS sais it contains (cant find complete ingredient list)

* Herbal Extracts (i assume thats saw pal, zinc or beta sis etc)
* Aminexil SP94
* Retinol
* Nanosomes
* Copper Peptides
* Vitamin & Mineral Complex

Revivogen contains:

The active ingredients of Revivogen® are natural compounds proven to inhibit 5-Alpha-Reductase (the enzyme that produces DHT), block the androgen receptors and stimulate hair growth. These active ingredients include Gamma Linolenic acid (GLA), Alpha Linolenic acid (ALA), Linoleic Acid, Oleic Acid, Azaleic acid, Vitamin B6, Zinc, Saw Palmetto Extract, Beta-Sitosterol and Procyanidin Oligomers.

Im leaning towards revivo, for no apparents reason as i dont know much about these fatty acids, but hav'nt seen quite the maintenence i had hoped from spectral RS, which is understandable as it does'nt contain minoxidil like the other spectral versions.
Although i will say RS does dry quickly and doesnt leave any residue when styling, where as i hear Revivogen is quite messy?

Anyone have an knowledge on the subject and would like to chime in would be very helpful

Everything on here gets mixed reviews, propecia included.

Personally, I think revivogen is a good alternative to finasteride. However, you won't want to apply it in the morning as it leaves your hair looking like you showered in motor oil.

Can't comment on Spectral RS.

If interested, search "revivogen" and "admin" to find more info on revivogen.

hmmm yea tough call. Might have to go prox-n morning. Revivo at night before spironolactone.

Im reluctant to keep up with RS because of it's lack of consumer review (probably overshadowed by dnc etc.) , although admitedly the ingredients list does seem more convincing than revivogen.

finasteride fighter, i have glanced through your thread from time to time, its great that you compiled all the treatments.
I really just need a good topical to replace minoxidil, but RU and some of the newer treatments are to pricey and difficult

Tempted to try metconazole but cant justify putting vag cream on my head from the limited success storys

Revivogen formula has changed again due to so many complaints. They made if virtually colorless and less greasy and improved the smell. They have added caffeine to it as well. I ordered the new formula to see if its alot better cosmetically too. I did very well on Revivogen many years ago but stopped it due to the smell, greasiness, and color and already using so many topicals.

Thats good to hear, how do you know you did well on it, if you were using a number of topicals?

maintenance or regrowth?

I used to use Revivogen and the laser comb without any other treatments and my hair got alot thicker and maintained well. At that time I used nothing else and did not even take Propecia. My hair has slowly diffusely thinned more in the past few years and this coincides around the time I gave up on Revivogen. However, it also coincides around the time my thyroid issues started to show too. Revivogen takes at least 6 months to show some improvement too. Most people who try Revivogen quit way before the 6 months and deem it as a bust or "snake oil". If this new formula is cosmetically better than I will stick to it. I think the best responders to Revivogen are just diffuse thinners or NW3 or less. I don't really know if I got regrowth but it does thicken up the hair and help slow things down. Most people don't stay on Revivogen due to its color, greasiness, and smell so maybe with the new formula more people may decide to try it again like I am. Revivogen is a hit or miss for most. Its one of those treatments you have to try for at least 6 months to see if it at least thickens things up or slows things down. I doubt you will get regrowth but it could happen. In the new formula, it supposedly absorbs faster too. I think that could be a big plus along with no staining and a smell similar to the shampoo, and no greasiness. I was sold on those reasons to try it again.

Interesting! Dr. House, have you received the new formula? IS it more cosmetically acceptable?

Hey JWM , I will get the new formula on Thursday and report back here with a review. I did a search to see if anyone tried the new formula and gave some feedback but none so far. The news of the update happened only a few weeks ago so maybe that is why no one has given any feedback. Are you going to give it a try if its cosmetically acceptable now?

I am very tempted, House. The main thing that has always kept me away from Revivogen is the greasiness/staining/smell etc. If that is a thing of the past and it's still effective then...

Oh no! You obviously didn't get the memo: Revivogen is "quite weak," it's a scam, and there hasn't ever been "a single success story" on here about Revivogen.

Kidding.

You're absolutely right about the cosmetic problems with revivogen. Something that works for me is to part my hair on one side and apply the liquid along the length of the part and rub it in. Then I move the part a few centimeters and repeat. I still wouldn't recommend going on a date with it in, but it helps keep it out of your hair - and off pillows and sheets (and out of the doghouse).

Anyhow, good to hear another revivogen success story. I'm hopeful the new formula is an improvement over the old.

finfighter,

I've used loads of other treatment, but only been consistent with a few.

I started with minoxidil in early 2005 and added finasteride a few months later. I dropped finasteride in 2006, went to minoxidil 4-5 times a week and started using revivogen. I've pretty much maintained since then, though it's hard to be absolutely certain. In my experience hairloss has ups and downs; some days/weeks/months my hair looks much better or far worse than I expect.

If you look through old posts on here you will find at least a few success stories with revivogen. For whatever reason, though, they are quickly forgotten.

When considering whether or not to use it, keep in mind that DoctorHouse is absolutely right about the cosmetic issues of revivogen use. I really hope the new formula is an improvement.

Interesting stuff, il have to stick round and hear your cosmetic review of it first Dochouse before i purchase.

What's the skinny on caffeine these days? I remember people awhile back using that alpecin shampoo containing caffeine. Never really hear of it anymore
