Nuli said:No, it does not cause hairloss. Some people apply it to the scalp before applying other topicals because its said to help increase absorption
BodyDysmorphic said:what strength tretinoin (retin-a) did the Doctor prescribe?
retin-a is used by some people to increase absorption of hair loss topicals
what it does is encourage new skin cell growth acting as an exfoliant
basically it removes the top (dead) skin cells so new one can grow underneath them
BodyDysmorphic said:Tretinoin is not suppose to harm the follicles but i really dont know for sure
i think the problem usually associated with Tretinoin is that it can irritate the skin
usually people have to "work up" to using it daily
.025 is a good dosage for someone that has never used it as it can be kinda harsh stuff if your skin is not used to it
MAKE SURE YOU MINIMIZE SUN EXPOSURE
TRET can make you burn alot easier and possibly worsen acne scars
i would suggest using a sunscreen scar cream during the day on those spots
Merdma makes one with sunscreen
BodyDysmorphic said:well you can get some sun exposure while on it
it wouldn't go out sun bathing while your using TRET
the sun makes acne scars worse and the fact that your exfoliating the dead skin on top of those scars encouraging skin cell regeneration i would want the best possible atmosphere for the new skin being regenerated
these acne scars may take like 6-8 months to lighten so be patient
what type a acne scaring did the derm tell you you had?
just curious
cheers mate
JLL said:Yeah, sun and retin-a = bad combination. You should apply the retin-a in the evening or at night, and apply sunscreen before going out.
But in any case, if anything, retin-a should be good for hair follicles. I used retinol (which is much less potent) on my skin and noticed new hairs growing on my temple. Retin-a increases collagen production and cell proliferation, both of which are good things. I've also read a paper that said retin-a reduces the amount androgen receptors with long term use, which seems promising.

Does anyone know if it will harm my hair follicles using it every night before minoxidil application ?
