I´ve been having results from my regimen (manteinance+thickening) since month 7 on treatment. Those results were all over the male pattern baldness pattern thing, and they have shown after an initial decline in hair density due to a shed in month 3.

Now I´m in month 9 of my treatment.

The main area where I´m concerned is the crown, and it was slowly getting better, but today I´ve taken some pics and the zone is evidently getting thin again. WTF???

Even though frontal part of the scalp is ok and I haven´t lose ground there, the crown is now thin again.

As usual I had an increase of shedding in September, but it didn´t worried me since my front looked ok. I also checked with the hand-mirror and crown is definitely getting worse!!!. What a dellusion.

During summer I changed 2x daily app of minoxidil to 1x day. Do you think this could have something to do???

In September I added MSM 2g daily to my routine w no noticeable effects by now.

I was getting used to see hair getting better with time, but this step backwards is quite frustrating.

Same here.

During summer I changed 2x daily app of minoxidil to 1x day.

Major mistake. Why did you do that for? You weren't even over the 1year mark.

Even if you are just shedding due to treatment, the switch from 2x daily to once will compromise your results. I cannot see a reason why to do that since you are still aiming to regrow. After the 1,5-2 year mark you would have milked all the regrowth that minoxidil could give you and go for maintenance(1x day).

Even after the 2 year mark minoxidil could still lead to new growth though . The once per day application has the benefit of convenience and having another option (reverting to 2x application) if results start to wear off.

But now is too soon.

Ok, SE, I´m informed about that matter, but I´ve been on minoxidil for two years, (I started minoxidil a year and a half before finasteride), getting the 2x application everyday.

I do not feel minoxidil gave me noticieable results, in fact the very first year density in the crown went down a bit.

So this summer I took the decission to cut down to 1x daily, with the increased comfort of use associated.

I´m still too confident on minoxidil efficience to completely cut minoxidil applications. Maybe if on february (first year mark) I´m not satisfied with results I´ll try to look for another topical treatment.

It´s sad becouse it is said it´s the zone where one gets better results with meds. I just need some slight regrowth to get an acceptable condition, but, dang it, it´s frigging difficult to achieve it!!!!.

I had a similar experience... After 8 months on treatments I started getting results... These results for me lasted until month 16- 18. Then in early summer I got a shed that hasnt really stopped since. I noticed that the areas that were a problem before treatments (left hairline and middle hairline) started to lose ground again.

One observation to note was increased scalp tenderness during the onset and through-out the shedding. I dunno if you have had any scalp tenderness or noticeable inflammation but it may be a good idea to look into copper peptides and emu oil. These products wont prevent damage to your hair from DHT but it may help improve your overall scalp environment which in turn might help tip the scales back in your favor.... Just a thought and something to consider trying.

Good luck!

Socks, thanks a lot for your solid advice, but I´m not experiencing any scalp tenderness or pain or inflammation.

The only problem with my scalp was that it became grasy quite fast, but it has been solved with the use of nizoral. It completely dries my scalp.

I´m going to stick with current regime, which is basically the big 3, till I get to the 1 year mark, no matter adverse situations I´m going to be.

I checked again and hair is definitely worse. I´ve heard some people saying that around months 8-9 there´s a new shed. Also I´ve heard a lot of people saying that first year is like a rollercoaster, going up and down, so I´m going to stick with treatments, hoping things will go up again for me.

Also, maybe I´m gonna try 2x minoxidil daily, after two years from start using it. Do you people think this sounds good?? Or after 2 years I just have to let it be and apply it 1x daily??

As I´ve been using finasteride for 9 months, I don´t know if I still can call for regrowth with minoxidil.

Sorry Solo, but your regimen button, your initial post and your second post report different times!

Do not exclude the change in minoxidil routine as one of possible reasons. You should keep things steady since you got on the 3 less than a year ago.

Best of luck to you, I am a crown sufferer too.
