Restarting Propecia After Taking A Break. Any Advice Welcome.

Hey, so I took propecia for a little over a year, it made quite a big improvement to my hair, still patchy on the crown but I can deal with it, it's possible I was having some side effects though. Nothing we've not heard before, no morning erections or spontaneous erections of any kind, less sensitivity, etc. The made problem though was stress. I kept having little freak outs about what I was doing and just overall never got comfortable taking the meds, so I stopped about a month and a half ago and swore I'd never go back. Anyway, I can't deal with it. My hairs is pouring out of my head at an alarming rate and I'm just not ready to accept it yet. I'm seriously considering restarting on propecia, if I do, will it be like starting all over again? Will I have to go through the whole shedding phase again? Are there more risks of sides? Do you guys think I'm mad to start again if I was probably having sides in the first place? I'd appreciate any advice on this or comments in general. Thanks in advance.

Starting propecia again will not potentionally yield more sides... infact its quite the opposite! From what you've said those side effects are minor, i dont expect you to experience them again, especially with your great initial response to the medicine. Why you stopped is your own reason but in the hairloss world only one thing is certain... baldness. My advice to you is buddy, give finasteride ( a cheaper and just as effective alternative to propecia) another chance.. maybe even half the dose like @stachu recommended! you will keep most of the benefits with a lesser degree of potentional side effects... goodluck!!

The most stressful thing for me in the first few years of taking finasteride was... Visiting the forums. It always managed to surface fears that maybe it wasn't working or there were some side effects I wasn't noticing.

For years, until a few months ago, I stayed away from the forums and eventually taking finasteride was like taking a vitamin in the morning.

I've returned, for now, since I've been on finasteride long enough to offer some living proof that it does sometimes work.

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate it! I know what's you mean about these forums, once I started on propecia I avoided these forums for the whole year, except for the occasional private conversation, I think it's best mentally. So, I'm guessing I'd need a pill cutter to half the dose? Is that a totally normal thing to do? And is finasteride just the same as propecia? Is it safe to assume that the new hair I have grown/maintained over this last few years will fall out over the next few months without propecia and I'll be back at square one? I could post some before and after pictures if anyone is interested, just so you could weigh up whether it's worth it or not? Thanks again.

Also, do you think I should add Nizoral to the mix and does it do much? I currently use alpecin but I don't really think it's makes much difference.

Its will kinda sounds funny, but i stopped popping the pills by kitchen knife or pill cuter. I just... crush it with teeth (5mg proscar tablets hahah) yeah everyday i am getting a small snack of 5mg and putting it back to proscar pack :D

Alpecin may help, it contains caffeine and i believe it does "something" to keep hair alive but you can add nizoral and use a scheme like 1-0-1 so nizoral-1 day off-alpecin. Cause washing hair everyday its a very bad thing. You can start thinking about this.

Okay, so I'm thinking I'm gonna get back on propecia. Man, I so weak willed! It's not even even been two months and I can't handle this sh*t! I think I'm gonna take your advice and try half on how the does for the first few months, but seriously, is that a totally normal thing to do? I'm sure I was advised in the past not to mess around with the doesage? Also nizoral and I've heard good things about biotin.

I've just read a post on here about nizoral not working for guys with long hair (like me), is there any truth to that? Thanks again guys.
