I can't speak for minoxidil, but I have some experience on finasteride.

I quit finasteride for like 6 months. They say you will lose your hair within 6-9 months on finasteride, and I guess I kinda expected it to start at 6 months...

anyways, that's not how it works: it goes gradually. First thinning, then shedding, and you don't NOTICE anything until about 6-9 months, but the process starts long before that.
The thing is: I had been on finasteride for 5 years at the time. I had great results, lots of thickening, and even some regrowth at the temples.

When I quit, I obviously lost hair. Still above baseline, but you could tell I had lost some. Now; when I started finasteride again, the shedding stopped pretty quick (2-3 months in). Then I regrew quite a lot (kinda surprising), but not as much thickened as the first time.
12 months into my second go at finasteride, I still have hair in all the right places (thank god), and it's not going anywhere, but it's NOT AS THICK as the first time.

Any reason you haven't thrown in minoxidil?

does anyone know answer to my questions....

does minoxidil regrow hairs that might have been regrown previously but lost when minoxidil was stopped?...

also does minoxidil work on areas that are already bald?

Growing hair on a bald spot is going to be a challenge regardless of what you use. I woul d guess your best shot would be with Propecia and minoxidil

I would guess most of the hair you lost after stopping minoxidil will grow back but obviously you won't know for sure unltil you try, on a side note I had much better results on foam than liquid minoxidil.

I've read a bunch of topical minoxidil studies, but I don't recall ever seeing one that tested it under that specific condition (stopping it for a while, then re-starting it later to see if hair would re-grow to the same extent). Since balding continues during the period that you're not using minoxidil (hell, it even continues during the period that you ARE using minoxidil), I would expect it not to regrow at exactly 100% of the same level that it did earlier in time.
