Regain and finasteride for growth, then only finasteride for sustaining ?

Hi everyone.

I'm 30 and have just started taking finasteride and Regain/Rogain. I noticed my hair was getting thinner about a year ago and in recent months
the hair loss has been increasing. Last time I had a haircut and washed my hair afterward, I had a big shock. I could see large areas of scalp.
I'm splitting a 5mg finasteride pill in four pats for 1.25mg and 5% liquid Regaine.
My plan was to take both for maybe 6 months and then only finasteride after that. Hoping that finasteride could retain the extra growth of Regain.
Does this make sense? Or will stopping regain make me loose hair?
Also, is there any sense in cutting the pill in 6 parts for 0.83mg or should I stick with 1.25mg?

As far as i know minoxidil regrown/thickened hair are minoxidil-dependant. finasteride only won't keep them :(

I have only been on these two for a couple of days now. If I don't like to use regaine every day, should I drop it now and only take finasteride?

If you still have enough hair and all you want is maintanence, you can drop minoxidil.

Thanks for the reply.

Is this a documented fact about minoxidil or general experience on this forum?

What about the 1.25mg vs 0.83mg finasteride?

It's nice to finally get some answers to my questions. The two dermatologists I talked to knew less than me after 2 days of internet searching :( .

I guess the majority of the board members would say the same thing about the minoxidil :).

1,25 mg vs. 0,83mg should not make a big difference (But it's gonna be hard cutting proscar's into 6 pieces ;))

amsch is right.

If you are treating male pattern baldness and you are not willing to use topical minoxidil on a daily basis for as long as you want to keep your hair, then yes, drop it now.
