re:

Without photos you have no concrete evidence or second opinions to confirm what you are saying. Please provide this so we can have constructive discussion as to whether finand minoxidil hurt ones hairline.
At this point you, like so many others here, are just giving hearsay evidence. It is irresponsible...........

it always gets worse before it gets better. just ride it out for 6 months. I bet you'll be glad you did.

Well if you are loosing your hair at a steady rate and all treatments take a minimum of 3 months to show any signs of working then it stands to reason that it must get worse before it gets better.

Your situation can't be much worse than mine. I just noticed thinning about 3 weeks ago and it is definately accelerating. I hope it turns around for you as well as for myself.

re:

This is the problem, so many of us notice that we are thinning for the first tiime, instantly go on finasteride and minoxidil and then start studying our hairlines and our shedding rates for the first time in our lives. Since hairloss was not an issue for many years, we never noticed our hairlines and shedding going up and down with changes in diet, season, stress etc. Now that we are noticing these things (on a daily and sometimes hourly) rate, we think things are getting worse every day. This is why before and after photos are so important.
Is there truth to the finasteride and/or minoxidil sheds? I am not sure but I think there is. I "think" I had a clear increased shedding but I thought it was a good sign that the medications were at least changing things. If new hairs need to grow then they push out old ones. The reality is that, once one decides to try any male pattern baldness regime, they must stick to the treatments and give it a year because hair goes through many many cycles.
I cannot blame you all for panicing, but stick to it. I have a photo about three weeks after beginning treatments and the improvement is very good even though sometimes I look in the mirror and think my hair looks like sh*t and things are getting worse.
I do not think finasteride and minoxidil are wonder drugs, even though they sometimes are promoted like that by distributors, but I think they at least help almost everyone. The problem is that they come with a cost (both financially and the physical risks of sides) and it is worth it to me.

Jfrank, I am just wondering have u gone through any massive shedding after starting finasteride? (because sudden hormone imbalance could lead to shedding) Or its just a steady decrease of hair line. Because I don’t find any reason why finasteride should make one’s hairline worst. Yes, finasteride increase the level of Testosterone but Testosterone doesn’t have any direct of effect on scalp hair, unless its converted to DHT. So what could go wrong?

Well, I heard things go worse before it get better with finasteride for many people so, stick to it for at least 6 months, I am sure u will see some positive result.

yes, i would say is was massive shedding.... i've seen two derms adn they both seem to think it was Telogen Effluvium.. however, it was limited in frontal hairline shedding, and mostly/only frontal shedding.. its like advanced accelerated male pattern baldness that killed a perfect hairline in less than a month.. (i didnt even get the pleasure of seeing my hairline thin)

At three months of propecia use, it looks like frontal baldness... and if shedding continues like this, i am afriad that i will lose my entire frontal area..... and this all happpened in THREE F-IN MONTHHS!!!!!!!!!!!!

i do however notice a lot of thin hairs growing everywhere... look like longer veluus hairs..

those vellus type hairs are useless, cuase they blend with the scalp... and there arent too many of them...
