Rediculous Shedding That Started After A Very Stressful Time

Hey everyone,
I'm shedding all my hair! Everytime I comb over a paper I count around 300 hairs(yes I did my best to count)...I've been shedding alot for the past 2 months and it doesn't seem it's stopping or slowing down! I mostly shed telogen hairs but I can also find a couple of miniaturised hairs! What exactly is happening? Will this ever stop!? Is this Telogen Effluvium? If it's indeed Telogen Effluvium how do I stop it?!

Sounds like Telogen Effluvium. Hairs should grow back but I would definitely go to a derm and get a scalp biopsy to make sure.

There is no real treatment for Telogen Effluvium but time. Chances are up to 6 months or longer and 6 more months on top of that for hair reach its previous density.

If it's Telogen Effluvium though it can trigger male pattern baldness, keep a very close eye on things and see a specialist.

Thanks for the quick reply and I'll definitely check with a derm during next week....how do I know if it triggered male pattern baldness? Also my hair loss is patchy some places have good density other ones are thin(not a typical male pattern baldness pattern)I posted a thread with very short hair before and I was thought to have diffuse thinning. I'm trying my best to let it go but every time I comb or shower it just shocks me

I'm going through a very similar situation myself with the sudden shedding (which I never had before in my life and I'm 40), non typical thinning pattern, and uncertainty. I was was roiding though, the hormone fluctuations alone can cause Telogen Effluvium, as can the 4 day food fast I went on before my cycle.

Never lost hair on roids before. I have a derm apt in 2 weeks to help figure out where I'm at.

I'd say this shouldn't keep you up at night. Hair lost that fast is not natural for male pattern baldness. The hair runs through many cycles. So even if you have a sudden onset of male pattern baldness the hairs will still grow back, just thinner and more minaturized in which case you may want to consider the big 3. If it's just Telogen Effluvium as is most likely you have nothing to worry about at all, but time.

In both cases it will probably level out and slow dramatically in the next 6 months, even a male pattern baldness component if aggravated by some external factor should slow down to a more reasonable rate and you should see regrowth.

A biopsy will reveal all.

btw be as gentle with your hair as possible.

The hairs that are going to fall will fall eventually but if you expediate the process, your hair will look shittier and shittier until the new hairs grow in.

No point in walking around looking a lot balder than you need to over the next 6 months.

This caution is recommended for people with Telogen Effluvium.
