Recovering Hair follicles

When finasteride/dutasteride lowers DHT levels and gives hair time to repair itself, does it reverse the damage that DHT does to it.. or is that irreversible?

So lets say your hair follicle starts at 100%

DHT damages it to 40%.. this has taken 3 years to do.

If finasteride/dutasteride stops DHT.. and your hair repairs itself back to 100%.. will it take another 3 years to damage it back to 40% or does it just fly back down to 40% when stopping finasteride/dutasteride making its effect temp.?

1. Propecia (finasteride) regrew hair in 2/3 men over a 5 year period.
2. I think you can infer that if you can regrow hair, you can return the thickness of your hair. To what degree, I do not know.
3. Most people say it takes up to a year to see baseline once you remove Propecia from your regimen.

It seems that, like in medicine in general, every study involves a report of cause and effect. Conjecture about the process is not important to doctors. People took finasteride and regrew hair, period. I think you are asking what is the mechanism that causes hair to regrow and thicken. I assume it is because cells in the hair matrix are now able to divide faster than are destroyed by DHT, but this is just a guess.

maybe my avatar will answer that question, though it they were on a year and then off a year.

CCS, the study in your avatar shows that new hairs probably fall out after a year. It does not show the effects onto hair that was present at baseline.
