Hi,

I am about to tak plunge into dutasteride as started losing it bad on finasteride (though initial good results for 2 years).

Anyway, for those currently on dutasteride, can you recommend what's the right dosage (i.e.max result of dutasteride at lowest amt.).

I am thinking about doing dutasteride every other day while still taking finasteride every other day. Since there's supposed to be no interaction between these two drugs, I hope it's ok.

Or do you guys recommend taking jus taking dutasteride every other day?

Thanks....

I'd take Dutasteride only because dutasteride = finasteride + X in simple terms.
finasteride reduces DHT by about 60%, dutasteride by about 90%. I think taking both drugs would result in a DHT deprivation of 90% and not 150%.

Agreed. There is no point in taking finasteride if you're taking dutasteride. If you do decide to take dutasteride, try taking a loading dose of 2.5 mg/day for a week and then lower it down to 0.50 mg/day or something. Unlike finasteride, dutasteride builds up and eliminates rather slowly from the blood.

Thanks Bismarck/Drinkrum --

But, what I was thinking was actually trying NOT to take too much dutasteride than necessary (i.e. dutasteride 0.5mg every other day)

The question is, should I just take nothing on the off-dutasteride day or should I try to "fill" it with finasteride.

I guess I need to understand the difference between "bioavailability" and "half-life."

Seems like dutasteride has much longer half-life than finasteride (like 5 weeks). However, according to GSK's website, dutasteride has mean "bioavailability of 60%. Do you guys know whatever that means?

Or does it mean for dutasteride to reduce DHT, you pretty much need to take it everyday (bioavailability). BUT once it has done its job (i.e. reducing DHT), this thing just linger in your body for a long time (i.e. half-life) eventhough it's not really doing anything to reduce DHT.

Thanks for your help,

0.5 mg every other day is enough you wont't need finasteride any longer. And that's enough to build up in your system I think. It may just take a bit longer compared to 2.5mg every day.

Bis is right, if you want to build dutasteride up in your system try a loading dose of 2.5mg then after a week or two go on the 0.5mg once every other day. I think you will see results a bit quicker than just taking 0.5mg every other day to start with. :)

On the other hand, using a "loading dose" at the start is obviously going to be more of a sudden change to your system. It would be more conservative to let dutasteride levels build up more gradually, letting your body become used to it over a somewhat longer period of time.

Keep in mind that they certainly won't build up to the SAME level, which someone might infer from what you said. The level to which dutasteride builds up in your blood is proportional to the dose that you take.

These people who are giving the insane suggestion of taking a higher level of dutasteride to begin with have obviously never taken dutasteride themselves. 0.5mg daily will be enough to make you aware you're majorly f*****g with your body's hormones, trust me.

Hi, my own 15 month experiment of taking dutasteride every other day yielded only a very marginal gain over Finasteride. But now, just 7 months into a daily dosage, I am seeing an appreciable increase in the volume of new hairs - though this new growth is in its infancy, meaning the hairs are still quite small, lightly pigmented and could yet fail to develop into mature hair shafts.
