I'm wondering how you can tell whether the front of your hair is receeding or not.

I know my temples have slight recession, maybe a centimeter or more. But I can't tell if my hairline has receeded. When comparing with pictures, I see not much difference, and any difference may all be in my head.

Is there any tell-tale signs of recession? would skin be a different colour at one point, would there be different feelings. anything?

would skin be a different color? no. it doesn't happen overnight, so as you recede the skin where your hair used to cover will match your overall skin tone. the best way to tell recession is to take monthly pictures of your hair from all different angles and compare them maybe once every 3 months.

Maybe you should post those pictures and see if anyone here can confirm it for you. It helps a lot more if people can see it for themselves.

I want to post pics of my hairline but my camera can't seem to keep in focus on the temples when zooming in, which sucks. I'll be on medical treatment tomorrow myself so I might try and get some up before I take the meds. Because I'm pretty much at the stage your in, little hairloss at the temples (more of a case of drastic thinning for me rather than total loss) and took me a while to actually believe myself that I was remotely losing any hair.

You could pick a reference point; it could be a mark on your skin or a lonely hair that's close to your hairline for measurement.

I have a single hair that’s left from my NW1 at the center of my hairline. That bastard won’t fall no matter what. So he’s my reference point, and the only reminder of a happier hair life. It will look better if I pulled it out, but I need him.

i would post up pictures, only i'm a bit embarassed that somebody i know might recognise me. i know the chances are slim, but once something is up on the internet...

one thing i know for sure is that my temples have receeded about 1 cm.

i see alot of fuzz where there used to be hairs, and i developed a bit of a pimple/acne problem there before the hair fell out. i'm guessing the acne was probably the cause (damaged the skin around there, making hair not grow).

as for taking pictures. when i compare to pictures i have, such as my drivers liscence, it looks as if the hair has receeded (to me). when i ask other people they say, your hair looks exactly the same, it hasn't receeded since that picture.

i've found another method to measure though.

i'm going to measure using finger lengths from my eyebrows (as they shouldn't move). if it goes further than 4 finger lengths, then i know i've receeded.

and i posted a thread on "how to take pictures" because i wanted to know how. i'm still not inclined to post them for the above stated reason. i know it's a silly reason, but i don't care.

My front and temples has receded about 1 cm and the color of the skin is very very different. My skin is dark white/ light brown but where i used to have hair is totally white. I have the recession about four years. All this time the color has not changed to match with the overall skin.

I think it depends on the length of your hair.

if you have a fringe, the hair would block out the sun and stop your skin from tanning.

(same reason the scalp is a different colour to your skin).

but if you buzz your hair and leave nothign to cover the temples, i guess you'd have the skin there blended in with the rest of your skin.

you say you've had 1cm recession for 4 years ibm. am i correct in assuming then, that whatever you're on (i'll check your regimen after posting this), has sucessfully halted your hair loss? and has done so for 4 years?

I started 5 months ago and i'm using only Minoxidil. I hope to get finasteride soon.

and once you're on finasteride, are you going to continue with minoxidil? and why are you only "hoping" to get finasteride? are you having trouble getting a script?

The hairline seems to me in the same though i lost hair. The skin color difference show that.

I loose more hair on top where i have a lot of itches and wounds.

Soon i'll be a NW4.

I'm with some trouble of buying finasteride online. Most sites dont ship to Portugal. In fact Inhouse said that they have a lot of trouble to ship here because packages simply disappear.

I wont buy Propecia because is very expensive and i dont have money for that.

I feel that Minoxidil is not giving the results that i was getting one month ago. Now my hair is crappy, oily and woundy.

are you sure it's safe to apply minoxidil to broken skin? maybe that's why the skin isn't healing up?

get proscar, it should be as cheap as buying propecia online.

I have itches and wounds a long time before Minoxidil.

I'm waiting for Elite to send me and i already paid. But i'm waiting a long time.
