Hi. Been tracking my hairline with paranoia since last year.

Currently one side of my hairline has receded a bit. I’m trying to determine if I should contact a dermatologist and start treatment.

Photo from 2015: Notice the slightly matured spot. Age: 15

Never noticed it. Just happened to have the photo lying around.

Photo from 2016: Here again is the spot in question. Age: 16

Just for note, the other side of my hairline DOES NOT have this recession.

The left side (facing you) is the side with the recession. you can see it a little bit.

The next photos I have are from about a year ago, 6 months ago and now.

2018: Age 18 or 19

Does it look like it’s receding more? Should I contact a dermatologist? Father has full and thick hair, he is 60. Mothers father died in late 30’s but had hair. Uncle on moms side is bald, but her other brother isn’t.

Any advice, i would greatly appreciate. God bless.

There's no such thing as a mature hairline. It's just a coping mechanism for those who are receding due to androgenic alopecia. In my opinion, your hair isn't worrisome, just keep an eye on it and take action if it begins to deplete your self-esteem.

Your hair looks fine but I do see some miniaturization but that could just be normal for your hair. Definitely keep an eye on it take pictures in the same lighting with the same angle.

Hair looks pretty good man.
I don't even think it's matured, it's still really low. Just keep taking pictures every month and if you notice some changes then make an appointment. Right now I'd pass on treatment. How's the family history though?

Looks good, how old are you? 20? Like others have said some miniaturization but cold be normal. I'd say just reassess at 25 when it's more likely .

I wasn’t aware miniaturization was normal for anyone? I always assumed once it started you’re pretty much screwed, is that not the case?

Well I think some people naturally have those little baby hairs around the hairline and can lose them without it being balding/maturing as long as it's not in/behind the hairline.....

Gotcha I hate no idea, I’m 20 but have really over the last year just been crazy about my hairline/potential hair loss. Debating still if it’s worth talking to a dermatologist to be safe or not

The earlier the better it seems with this kind of stuff. You know your hair better than anyone so make an informed decision. Wish the best for you
