Quit Rogaine By Accident, Now Debating If I Should Stay Off For Good.

so as the title says I needed last minute surgery (completely unrelated to anything directly or indirectly related to hairloss/hair treatments.) so was rushed to the hospital last Thursday and put into an induced coma for about 4 days. I woke up in the icu with still decent hair thank god lol. I got released from there about 2 days ago (recovered 100%) and figured that since I've been already 7 days without rogaine I was just gonna drop it... I am back on finasteride but don't really wanna use rogaine as for the 2.5 years I used it I had 0 results, even within the first 6 months when I used it twice a day.

My hair still doesn't look too bad after 8 days of being off rogaine, now the question is, am I going to regret this and get a she'd of death within the next month? I'd love to hear people's experiences with rogaine foam and being unresponsive as I genuinely think it didn't grow one hair on my head for me... I won't lie I'm debating on maybe just applying a little dab to my temple points at night. But would love to hear some feedback on if I'm making a mistake? I really think rogaine wasn't doing anything for my hairloss, am I going to regret this?

I consider maintaining to be results. Were you still losing hair with Rogaine? If not I would go back on it if I were you. I wouldn't want to stop it and then have a shed.

Tbh rogaine wasn't maintaining anything, 12 months of finasteride had me questioning if I was maintaining so it's safe to say finasteride was doing all the ground work on maintaining my hair. Im shedding ATM though, although I think hairloss is a side effect of induced coma.

Idk man I would be reluctant to go off it....we have so few weapons available. Might be doing more to maintain than you realize. Also it would take more than a week off it to lose anything it's maintained

Are you ok btw?

Quitting minoxidil is a poor bet for you. The odds that it does absolutely nothing is tiny, it's probably helping your hair at least a bit. Just in this post it's easy to tell that you care alot about your hair.

You spend 2 sentences saying that you had some crazy urgent surgery and went into a f*****g coma for 4 days like it's nothing. Then 2 paragraphs on if you should quit a drug that takes as long to apply as brushing your teeth and gives you no side effects.

I'd stick to it if I were you. Hope you're doing okay!

f*** man, you guys both make very solid points, the way I see it is I already involuntarily stopped it so I'm gonna face the consequences and maybe considering I never had any results, that there may be little to no consequences in ceasing treatment... I do have a full 6 month pack sitting waiting in my room though, I guess at this point I'll take some time off and if I do notice anything get worst illhop back on asap. If it were up to me I would've never stopped it btw. My hairloss never really got stopped in its tracks before finasteride, but I always thought minoxidil was just a little security blanket... I also had some
Members ask me why I still use it if I don't respond to it, so that coupled with me stopping it had me thinking...

Guys I'm recovering fine btw and I really appreciate the concern, but I have always had a problem with strept throats and this time I had 3 massive abscess obstructing my breathing airways, so bag that I had to be put under to have them drained, luckily I got the surgery in time and they were able to drain everything and work with a camera through my nose, had I waited a another couple days, I'd have to get an incision through my fkn neck to have them drained and assure my breathing... the whole experience was an eye opener to me man, don't mean to downplay the situation at all lol, I just kind of enjoyed going to bed and waking up with normal bed hair and not gross minoxidil morning hair lol.

So I guess this thread will serve as a test, if in a month I notice a major decline in hair/increase in shedding, its safe to say mimic was doing something.

@g.i joey, I found that higher concentrations of Minoxidil do work for me to some degree where the 5% did not. Most interesting medical situation there also. I'm curious as to what could be causing such an infection. Blockage in frontal/nasal sinus, tonsil/adenoids, sometimes even an abcessed tooth can perpetuate chronic infections. Probiotics would certainly benefit your immune system. Stay well.
