questions about finasteride prescription

Hi, I was prescribed Propecia almost 4 months ago with already visible results and zero side effects.. I'm very happy with the drug and would like to continue on it for at least the next 5 years however I've ran into some problems regarding keeping up with my prescription... My dermatologist REFUSES to prescribe me 5 mg proscar, even though I explain to him I will cut it into the proper dosage. He says that he believes giving proscar to a 20 year old would be unethical so I know he will not budge on the issue... The other problem is I have to keep having follow up visits just to get more propecia, which is already costing me a ton, and my insurance is not covering the visits since the diagnosis was alopecia.. I guess "cosmetic". So I owe $200 now from two 5 min visit to obtain more propecia... So my questions are would I be more likely to receive a proscar prescription from just a gp rather than a derm? Or at least a large amount of supply/refills to offset having to go in all the time? Can anyone share how they got their prescriptions and how I might be able to save at least a little money on this? I would really like to continue on finasteride for the long haul but at this rate I won't be able to afford it. Thanks so much for any input.

Got the same problem. My derm wanted me to consent to monthly blood tests!

I'm gonna try a GP soon and see if that works.

Don't bother with a derm, do the GP route, they're amazing - I told mine I was going to London for grad school (which I am) so she gave me a prescription for a two year supply of proscar, which I now possess 8)

Thanks so much! You guys made my day. I'm fed up with all this crap I'm definitely done with my derm. Did you all just ask for 5 mg finasteride for hair loss?
