Question on thinning sides?

I think I'm thinning on the side of my head, the hair there is thin even sometimes compared to the top now.....
Why is this? Is that how my male pattern baldness is going to progress? (that really sucks cause I'm going to look ridiculous.... I have a decent head of hair right now (on rogaine and propecia) I would say it just looks like there is little holes or patches of hair gone on the side of my head..... Do I just have horribly progressing male pattern baldness?

I'd like an answer to, I've got the same thing, slight thinning on the sides and when i look closely at it in the mirror there's 1 or 2 tiny tiny patches of hair missing.

BUMP I have the same question..

I am a diffuse thinner. My hair on the sides of my head is thinning too....It really sucks.
My thyroid blood tests were normal. I am just wondering if my male pattern baldness is too aggressive.

Your hair on the sides of your head have androgen receptors sensitive to DHT. Just like the Crown and the Temples. Genetics determines where these androgen receptors are placed. Everyone's are placed differently but it usually follows the Norwood Hamilton diagram.

Usually, the people with heavy shedding on the sides will be heading for a high Norwood classification. Unfortuenatly, I'm one of those guys. My sideburns are nearly non existant.

decro435,

Thinning on the sides, sideburns and around the ears isn't male pattern baldness. BAck and sides are not male pattern baldness areas.
I am a diffuse thinner(top, frontal area, temples). Except this usual diffuse thinning on male pattern baldness areas, I have slight thinning on the sides, sideburns and around my ears(non male pattern baldness areas) and when i look closely at it in the mirror there are little holes or patches of hair gone on the side of my head. i have had a blood test(full blood count) had been told everything checked out ok including thyroid blood tests that were normal.
I am sure it's a combination of male pattern baldness on male pattern baldness areas(top, frontal area, crown) and diffuse alopecia areata on the sides that are not male pattern baldness areas.

Look at this pic, this guy has diffuse alopecia areata and his hair on the sides of his head are thinning.
