I was curious where you get your green tea, and what breand do you prefer? I'm not really going to start to drink tea to save my hair, but more so because I hear it can inhibit more body hair from growing.

Boy, you ran into just the right guy to answer this question... I tried several brands of Green Tea, found that most of them make a tea that is far too mild for my tastes. I wanted something strong tasting, something that tastes like TEA and has that caffeine kick that I need in the morning.

My favorite is a brand I find at Trader Joes, a local novelty grocery store. It is Salada. They make two kinds I like, one is their "Traditional" type which is my favorite and another, whose name I forget, which is basically their "traditional" but also has some Oil of Bergamot (whatever that is) in it which kind of gives it a pleasing lemony flavor. Salada gives me the biggest caffeine kick, which leads me to believe that hopefully it also has the highest concentration of the good stuff.

The only store-bought brand I like (assuming they don't carry Salada at your store) is Bigelow. A bit more smooth and tastier than the Salada, but not as much of a caffeine kick. It looks more pale in the cup, wheras the Salada starts as an opaque bright green and fades to a thick green-tan color the longer it stays in your cup. It leaves the nastiest stains on the cup, too... which leads me to believe that the sh*t is chocked full of the best o' the leaf.

I have heard anecdotally from a few other green tea aficionados that there are really superior green teas to be found out there in loose leaf form, far better than any pre-bagged teas. I haven't done any exploration in that area yet, but perhaps someone who has may very well blow everything I said out of the water here!

Also bear in mind that articles I have read say you need 4-5 cups a day to really ingest a significant amount of the goodies in the leaf. I have 3 cups in the am at home, about the same effect as two cups of coffee, while I watch the news and wait for my minoxidil to dry. Then, right after lunch, a 4th cup is delightful to shake off that post-lunch food coma. It has been a wonderful habit to add to my daily routine.

I appologize if I offend anyone especially you Brits but green tea drinky sucks ***. If you want the full benefit you must take the concentrated pills the tea drink is nothing more than satisfying for the taste buds.

I have medical proof to back this...

What benefits are you talking about? And what proof?

redbone, i've actually heard different. i heard taking the green tea extract pills won't do anything, and you should drink the actual tea. of course, this is all from opinions, and have no scientific proof to back it up.

There is no proof that is grows hair but plenty of proof that it is an exceptional anit oxidant. The tea is not concentrated enough to make a huge difference unless you want to keep a pot on all day and sip. Popping a few pills a day is more convenient and effective.

gardener,

bergamot is a wildflower in the mint family. aboriginals used the stuff for all kinds of wacky sh*t - stress relief, to heal wounds, and to treat sore throughts.

thumbs up bro. keep pounding that stuff back.

green tea

God Damnit!!!!! The catechins in green tea are supposed to inhibit 5-alpha reductase and I believe they are supposed to inhibit aromatase(enzyme responsible for converting testosterone to estrogen). Of course the study I believe was conducted on rats. Oh well I guess you have to start with some type of low life form first. I read it out of a IRONMAN magazine. I've got the issue somewhere around my house. Maybe I'll find it and tell more about it.

Q. How many cups of Green Tea should be consumed per day in order to gain the maximum health benefits? A. Most of the research has indicated that drinking 4 or more cups per day realizes the maximum health benefits. However, this has not been proven for sure. Researchers continue to study this matter.

Four or more would probably be proficient. Just watch out it might give you a stomach ache. Space it out evenly throughout the day that way you get a constant supplyof it in your'e system. I've drank several cups a day(5 and up) with no problems.

doesn't green tea contain caffeine in it? i know if you go past a certain intake of caffeine in a day, your testosterone levels will go up, and that's no good.

Yes, green tea does contain caffeine, but a cup of green tea has about half to two thirds the caffeine of coffee. In effect, someone who drinks 4-5 cups of green tea a day is ingesting the same caffeine as someone who drinks 2-3 cups of coffee a day.

And if the caffeine bothers you, the 'kind' green tea makers produce decaf green tea.
