i''ll be 29 in about 3 months and have had a slowly receeding hairline, since i was about 20-21. i've only tried topicals (minoxidil) and shampoos (nioxin), due to the horrific rx side-effect stories i've read in several major hairloss forums. honestly, nothing scares me more then people claiming they've have irreversible issues at such young ages. regardless, about a year ago (during the bad shed phase, from what i remember) i decided minoxidil was too much of a hassle and not working. bad move guys  over the next 12-16 months, i've gone from thinning temples and a receeding hairline (at the corners), to a nw4 or 5 (bald crown)... i doubt it's medical, although some would probably love to argue this point but wtf should i do?

i'm back on minoxidil, but wondering if it's possible to regain what's fallen out over the last year and a half? i doubt it  so i've been seriously considering surgery, because i feel i'm to the point of no return here. luckily i'm only about an hour from feller in NY and i'd even be willing to travel over the border for fue. let me know what you guys think or if anyone has had successful re-growth with non-prescription treatments.

i've been lurking around here for a while, but never really had the courage to post my own thread. thx in advance guys :D

oh btw, male pattern baldness does run in my family. my father passed away at a young age (37) but was clearly thinning, however his 3 brothers have full heads of hair to this day (all in their mid-50's). on my mothers side is the bad news :( one of her brothers (uncle to me) was completely bald at about 24 and the other has been thinning for years. he actually has had two surgeries in the last 2 years at crown and hairline (from what my mother has told me) but i feel awkward asking him about it. sorry this was so long, but i this is something i don't get to share with others.. actually i f*cking hate talking about it, but i need some suggestions damnit.

Folligen is good non prescription treatment for your scalp. I think you should get a prescription with Dr. Lee and try some of his products like xandrox and/or spironolactone to keep it from getting worse and maybe a little regrowth. Hope that helps a little. Good luck.

Do not listen to horror stories on hairloss forums, they are misrepresentative. Hairloss forums are full of people with problems, that is the function of a haiross forum, you should not take the temperature of a nation in a hospital.

Genuine scare story worth listening to:

DHT caused me irreversible hairloss.

Mgmt, you must educate yourself if you wish to save your hair.

Minoxidil or a shampoo like Nioxin will not stop DHT miniaturizing your follicles, eventually leading to balding, it would take something like finasteride or spironolactone.

Good Luck

Hi,

Hang on out there! Chear up! It's gonna be just fine. My suggestion is that you should go back to minoxidil. Consider minoxidil 15% from dr. Lee. I HIGHLY recomend that you also propecia. Don't worry. Side effects (if any) are reversible. You can always stop it if you wish. Give minoxidil twice daily and propecia a chance. I believe you will regain many hairs.
The option of a surgery always exist. Wait another year. Treat you hair with minoxidil and propecia and if no change is seems then go for a surgery.

Good luck!

Ditto what Eliazush said. Try a 15% minoxidil either from Dr. Lee or from Genhair.
