Question about propecia

I am in dilema should i start using finasteride. I read lot about it but still cant find answers i need. It is stated that Finasteride helps keeping hair we have. I saw official 5years Propecia study. Main defintion is that drug "slows down the hairloss". But for how long ?! Is it for 3, 5, 10 years? I know, everyone say: You cant tell it for sure, it depends, etc etc etc. But, if it slows down hairloss as long as we take the drug, then hairloss problem should be pretty much solved. If someone is "programed" to end with NW5, then taking propecia for 20 years should give him no more than NW3.
What is the true, for how long, realisticly, propecia works?

If it works for you to the point of completely stopping or reversing your hairloss there is a good chance it will continue to work for a long time.

You have to find out how well you respond to it first, and if/when it loses it's efficacy you can increase the dosage or switch to something more powerful (dutasteride).

You said it yourself, we don't know for sure and it depends on your hair loss and how you respond to the drug. It did absolutely nothing for me in the 8 months I was taking it before sides kicked in and yet some people see results after 2-3 months. Either way, potentionaly slowing down hair loss is hardly "problem solved". I highly doubt someone destined for NW5 would only end up with NW3 after 20 years. Look at the success stories forum. Real long term results are actually rare.

That's because people who have solid results aren't on hairloss forums, it's usually full of people who have had no success.

As for the OP, like the others have said, nobody knows, I started to notice improvement at the 3 month mark of half the dose, 0.5mg as opposed to 1mg (I'm 6 months in, FYI). That could last for 2, 5 or 20 years, depends on how you react to it, how long you take it, etc, everyone's case is different.

There is also a 10 year study, albeit mall scale, 100 plus men or so, still worth a gander.

I say this to everyone, but if hairloss is a true bane in your life, you'd be on it by now.
