Why dont men take these medications earlier in life like around 20 years old to preveent hair loss? Why isnt it like used by everyone to prevent the hair loss?

re:

If you do not have male pattern baldness or it has yet to have any effect then the medication is pointless. If you do have male pattern baldness, then some people avoid the drugs because of potential side effects, cost and/or hassle.

They prevent hair loss.

That's a good question. But, most people don't even use finasteride when they are going bald, so what are the chances people would use it preventatively? Everyone wants to believe they won't start losing their hair until they are at least middle aged.

People have complained of impotence for years after stopping the meds, whether you believe that or not is up to you.
Also, they are not going to do a trial to prove birth defects so take their word for that

Well, when I was researching the drug, I got all my info from Merck's website which says that 2% get sides. And it says that the sides are reversed when treatment is stopped. That makes it seem like the risks are so low and not even worth thinking about, however, thats not what alot, and I mean alot, of people using the drug for a long time have been saying

Have you seen the charts from the five year study? They accessible on the propecia.com site.

Basically, an average Propecia user can expect to see an increase in hair count for the first year or two of use. Then there is a slow decline towards (but remaining above) the baseline up to year 5. However, guys on placebo were losing hair at a horrendous rate by year 5!!!

Unfortunately, male pattern baldness is a progressive condition. You become ever more sensitive to even low levels of DHT... when that happens, you will need stronger DHT inhibition, so think about jumping from Propecia to Avodart.

well most people that still havnt gotn hair loss isnt really thinking that much about it, and people that have male pattern baldness in the future to come.. probably does not know about finasteride.. i didnt know about it when i was loosing... only know about rogain at first.. so probably many would start with it at the 1st sign of hairloss if they knew. I know i would...
People uguly search for treatment/help when they get a problem, not before. It`s a typical human thing to do.
