Question about Nizoral

Hello everyone.

This past 9 1/2 months I've been shedding more hair than usual. Following a lot of stressing and near obsessive checking of my hair and hairline, I've concluded that my hairline hasn't receded any (at least not to any noticeable degree) and my crown is still thick and there are no bald patches.

When I say shedding more than usual, I mean that there would be 2 to 4 hairs on the pillow every time I woke and I could count another 3-4 on my hands when I showered. Every time I run/ran my hands through my hair I could get about 0-4 hairs loose. All the hairs are long and have a white bulb on the end of them. I know that doesn't sound like a lot to people but I had never experienced it before so it did freak me out.

Now that I've sort of concluded that I'm not going bald (or at least not yet) it has made me realise just how much I don't want to lost my hair.

I cracked and bought some nizoral 2% and was wondering what using it would do for someone who isn't going bald yet? Would it work as a very slight preventative measure? Is it better to wait until the eventual day does come when I actually do really need to use it?

it would slow down the progression of balding.
yes it would be a slight preventative measure.

(PI = no. of hairs * hair diameter)

The unmedicated group showed a linear decrease in PI with time. The ketoconazole group yielded progressive PI increase.

Although the effects of ketoconazole on 5a-R have been documented, the authors of the study concluded that the benefits were attributed to its effects on fungal scalp infections in genetically predisposed individuals. They argued that Androgenetic Alopecia has a multifactorial pathogenesis with an inflammatory reaction caused by a Malassezia fungal infection. It was concluded that ketoconazole was therapeutic by reducing inflammation through its anti-inflammatory properties and by clearing the adjacent fungal infection.[
