Question about minoxidil & finasteride combo

Hi,

I've been reading here all about the 'big 3' and currently take finasteride and use nizoral 2% a few times a week, leaving it to soak in for 10+ mins each time, however have a question about minoxidil.

How does it work with finasteride? In other words, can you use the minoxidil to get back hair in areas where it no longer grows and then use the finasteride to keep said hair, at which point you can stop using the minoxidil because the finasteride will do it's job, or is it more a case of constant usage of the two needed to stimulate growth consistently over time?

I remember reading that finasteride doesn't really stop you losing it at the front, so I'm curious if the above works or not. I'm currently doing ok, temples starting to show but not dramatically and was wondering if I can use minoxidil to get back that which I have lost and use the finasteride to keep it, or if it works differently to that.

Cheers!

None of the meds available today are approved for the front of your scalp/hairline. However that doesnt mean that its impossible for you to see results in those areas. I started taking finasteride probably two years ago, my hair loss slowed but didnt stop although i did see a small amount of regrowth. about 4 months after i started using rogaine foam, i saw significant regrowth my hairline even became thicker. However just because finasteride prevents hair loss does not mean it will allow you to keep the hair you grew with the minoxidil. If you stop the minoxidil you've got about 2-3 months until you start loosing all the hair you just got back. If you stop the propecia you're going to start loosing your hair again. Both of those meds are lifetime commitments.

I've stopped using rogaine twice in the last two years (most recently a few months ago) Once because i thought it was contributing to my migraine headaches, and the second time because i got sick of smelling the foam every morning and night. Each time i did that, i had around 2-3 months in which i maintained my hair, however after those 3 months i started seeing significant shedding. I started using the foam again probably 3 months ago and i'm now starting to see regrowth. Give the big three a try, I'd suggest using the Rogaine foam because its much easier to deal with and it didnt cause the insane dandruff that the liquid cause for me.

Ah damn, I was hoping the finasteride would help the minoxidil/rogaine stick permanently.

Is there a place you can recommend getting Rogaine foam from? As a Uker it turned out I was playing over the odds for Propecia until I came here and have now ordered some generic proscar from Dr Ashcroft (hopefully receiving it any day now). I'd hate to pay a similar inflated sum if I can avoid it.
