They don't need to. As you said, you had never heard of hair loss treatments until you found this site.

A couple reasons, the first being as follows:

Most legitimate big companies are aware of the consequences of lying to consumers. They are aware of the FDA laws surrounding hair growth claims. Unlike other assholes out there who are seeking to make a quick buck by making grandiose claims about their little B12/SawPalmetto/VitaminCocktail hair tonics, the big companies can't lie about what the product will do for you. Since by law they can't make any claims about hair growth, then their marketing tools are pretty much restricted by the FDA laws. And rightly so. Without proper testing, nobody should be able to make hair growth claims. Thats why you hear about "magical tonics" all the time on these small internet sites. FDA doesn't have their eyesight set on them. Big companies are in the spotlight when it comes to this though.

There is a recent surge in products created for "thinning hair" to "improve the appearance" of it however. The bigger companies are creating lines just for that.

Nice backwards viewpoint on things.

Did you miss the part about "Properly testing" products for effectiveness?

No. The laws arent why we don't have more good products. The lack of testing is why we don't have more good products.

This is 1st grade logic.

Lóreal makes a business out of selling overpriced moisturizers, and calling them anti-aging treatment. Have you seen one single cream that´s not promising a 40-50 % reduction of fine wrinkles? Same old crap with diff. name. Oh and that aminexil obviously was a modified lie too.

In the UK it is illegal for drug companies to advertise their brand name of drugs. Merck are not allowed to advertise the name "Propecia" and whoever ( ) makes Regaine cannot advertise their 5% product, but in theory could advertise their 2% product because this is classed as an OTC drug and not prescribtion.
