Putting together a first regimen

Hi all,
I came across this board a while ago when I first started noticing my hairline was receding. A couple of my friends told me I was overreacting so I didn't do much at the time. It's gotten worse though, and I really want to stop it while I can. Right now I'd say I'm still 2 on the norwood scale. It's started thining at the temples and has started to move back some.

There are a few things I'm already doing, but nothing major. For general health I'm already drinking a lot of green tea and taking EFAs. I picked up nizoral and started using it twice a week. I have Nioxin but I've gotten the gist that it's considered to be nothing more than a good shampoo.

Because my hairloss is still minor I want to start with as light of a regimen as possible and see how it works out. After reading about the solutions I think revivogen looks attractive, being a decently priced DHT inhibitor and regrowth combo. I was also thinking about adding in minoxidil if I don't see enough thickening.

I'd appreciate any advice I could be given. Right now I feel like I'm still stabbing in the dark.

The more research you do on these sites the more you will come across, and subsequently start considering, the "Big 3". You're on one already which is Nizoral. Tea (people seem to focus on green tea but I know a little bit about camellia sinensis and black/white/green are pretty similar) is known to help internally and as a topical. Sounds like you're already considering Minoxidil which would be good to use in the areas you've thinned out or lost hairs in. Finasteride is probably going to be a must since hair loss is progressive. Look into it, and get on it sooner than later.

I too started off with a regimen that was pretty much all natural as I wasn't too knowledgeable about this stuff and wanted to err on the side of caution. Gradually added in minoxidil (been on for almost 10 weeks now) and ordered me some finasteride now. If sides scare you (which I DID experience with minoxidil but as I stuck through them they went away, being intense scalp itchiness) then do a low dosage finasteride regimen. I'm going to start off at 0.25mg every other day (EOD) which can be up to 90% as effective in reducing DHT as 1mg according to some studies that you'll see referenced here. Apparently dosages even at < half of the amount I'm starting at are effective as well, though my cutting skills aren't THAT great so I'll just fourth the Finax pill.

Even though it's not popular around here, you can toss in some Saw Palmetto extract as well. It's cheap at walmart and that brand has been tested to contain what it says it does. It does NOT lower DHT but apparently is an androgen receptor blocker, has PLENTY of anecdotal evidence for many years in helping hairloss as well, and is cheap with no known side effects.

Good luck with your battle! :)

if youre a nw2 i personally would go for propecia first and then consider revivogen if you get any sides. its the most effective and convenient way.

I'm really against the idea of taking any internals at this point. I just don't think the potential of any long term side effects is worth the risk, especially if there's a chance topicals will do the job. Does minoxidil and revivogen seem like a good start?
