Psychological Effects of Minoxidil

Hey all..

I have been taking minoxidil for around 5-6 weeks... the problem was it made me so much more conscious about what my hair looked liked during the day as a result of analysing my hairline twice a day. The process of application was ruling my days and i became more and more concerned about weather or not my shedding was actually going to stop... was this a good idea? am i committed at this stage in my life for daily application? or if shedding would continue to the point where in 4 months i wished i never started it?

I made the decision to stop taking it about 5 days ago and i feel better psychologically, not only about the fact i was shedding and loosing ground, but because i think less about the extreme detail of my hairline.

Have any of you guys had this same feeling? Stopped it and felt better? Become better socially? Regrown that month or so of shed hair as a result? Returned to your normal self?

This could be an interesting post... hope to hear some thoughts...

I have been on minoxidil for about 4-5 weeks now. I have been enduring heavy shedding since after the first week. I feel like it is starting to slow down now since I am seeing less hair on my hands after shampooing. If I were you, I would get back on it. You are almost over the hump. People say don't evaluate the drugs until after 6 months then again at 1 year. I am giving it a chance to work although my hair has thinned out quite significantly. I was about an NW2 when I started. I'm just a thin NW2 now.

I think that since I found this site and started taking multiple treatments for thinning hair I think about hairloss more (much much more) than before. On the other hand I came to this site for a reason... that is, I was noticing recession and thinning and it upset me. Now I have a plan, which is to spend all of my money beyond food and rent on hair-loss products and apply topicals twice a day, and take pills at night. I have never experienced a shed, and hope that is not a bad sign. I am in a blissful stage where it is too early to expect any positive results, and too early to say Im not having results. Actually, that state should last for ONE YEAR. At that time, even if I havent seen improvement, I hope to at least be able to say that I maintained. Being on treatments has allowed me to worry about my hair less, because I feel like Im doing what I can (hope for improvement or stability). Hair cycles over months, and it may take multiple cycles to see results, so dont hold your breath.

At the risk of sounding like a Dr. Lee's spokesman, I felt better after switching to his minoxidil/xanadrox, because they dry quickly (so I can forget about it) and dont make my scalp greasy and shiney thru clumped together hairs (which really freaked me out with regular minoxidil).
