I am almost 28 years old. I remember as an 18 year old someone in high school said I had a high hairline and one day I would look like Mr Clean. That and having a brother who got Androgenetic Alopecia at 18 scared the hell out of me. I have also always had very fine hair. I started Rogaine at 19 and finasteride at 20/21. I have consistently used both since then. At times I have used biotin and msm (cant hurt) and also nizoral 2% or 1% (more of the latter but lately its been 2%).

Lately Ive noticed my hairline is getting thinner both at the crown and the temples. I know a lot of people on this site imagine hair loss... trust me I am not one of them. I went to a derm yesterday and the derm confirmed that I have miniaturization at my temples, although it was small. My derm also said I am a Norwood 1. (I don’t think I really am... more like a 2) She advised a few things. First I could go up to 5 mg finasteride. She strongly advised this. I am afraid to do so because of the reported side effects. This is 5X what I have been taking for these past 7 years.

She then recommended PRP. I know many here are skeptical of prp and I understand that. But as the derm pointed out, I arguably am an ideal candidate. I luckily took preventive steps far earlier than most and still have a full(ish) head of hair. Seems like many who are disappointed with PRP are much further along in the process. I am poorly versed in Androgenetic Alopecia but I remember hearing that after a certain point you just cannot grow some hairs back.

Curious what you all think- thanks for your help.

Prp has about no data supporting its effectiveness except one small studying showing a slightly statistically significant increase in the thickness of individual hair fiber with no changes in hair counts. Repeat studies have not shown the same effect which calls into question if it even does that. Your derm wants you to do it so he/she can charge you thousands. The propecia advice is also not evidence based.

I don’t think you’re really balding, but if you want to do something go online and buy a derminator. Do it once every one or two weeks

dont go this doctor anymore

5mg blocks only as nearly as much dht as 0.2mg leave alone 1mg finasteride

next step would be duta instead of finasteride
