ProThik/spray on concealers

I generally don't have much good to say about spray on concealers, and I know I have given ProThik a bad review or two. But I feel I should revise my review on that.

I have one event I have to go to tonight, and I didn't want to go all out with my usual procedure of Dermmatch, Caboki and Toppik, which I then leave on for a few days or more. So I decided I would just spray some of my Prothik, which had been sitting there in the closet, on just to try to get through tonight and then I would wash it out. I didn't really hold much promise for it looking right, but I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

It seemed to really work well on my almost bald crown after I combed it through, and I might say it looks even better than the Dermmatch that I use on that area. Dermmatch would always look a little gray on my scalp and I would end up using a ton of Caboki and/or Toppik to thicken that up more. I didn't really have to do that with ProThik as it covered pretty well and looked natural once I combed the hair there. I did add some Caboki on the top to make it look thicker(don't really know if it looks much thicker than with just the ProThik on there, but I did it anyway - habit, you know), and I put some Toppik(with sprayer) on only the front of my hairline because I thought it maybe looked too stark of a contrast, but after I am wondering if I actually needed to do that at all and if the ProThik would have been fine with just some tinkering with the front and molding it with some hairspray(which I do no matter what I use there).

I was intending to wash it out after the event tonight but I think I will leave it in and see how it holds up after a night. I still am not very optimistic about that given that when I tinker with my hairline with ProThik in it, there is a ton of black fibers that ends up on my forehead(this was before I put Toppik in front). Much more than with Dermmatch or Toppik. I did put some hairspray on so hopefully that will help hold it on.

Other than the fibers falling, the only other complaint I really have with ProThik is with the mess it creates. If it wasn't so messy, I might consider it better than the others, even as a possible stand-alone concealer. But I will have to see how it holds up.

I almost forgot to add my question. Which is, does anyone use ProThik, or any spray-on concealer, as a stand-alone concealer? And how does that work out for you if you do?

Ok, it has been roughly a week since I put Prothik in. And I only did a touch up with some Toppik on a little spot on the back of my head where the pillow mussed up my hair and I had to recomb it there to re-cover part of the bald spot there.

The morning after I first put the Prothik on(put it on Sunday), I was preparing for the worst because I saw some black stuff on the pillow. So I was pleasantly surprised when I looked in the mirrow and the back and top of my head still looked good like it did when I put on the Prothik. So some did come out on the pillow, but that also could have been some of the Caboki that I added Sunday, because I KNOW that tends to come off at night(at least until I have it in a couple days and comb my hair flat, which I didn't even have to do with the Prothik).

The next days were pretty uneventful, until Thursday when I had to touch it up with a little Toppik which I already talked doing in the first paragraph.

So yeah, I am rethinking my first views of Prothik. It has held in there very well. And the thing about it, is that I don't really have to use two products(I did use other products this time because I really didn't want to experiment with only Prothik, but I think I will next time I apply it), because it coats your scalp like Dermmatch AND thickens the look of your hair like Caboki and Toppik.

The only cons I still have with Prothik are of course the mess it creates because it is an aerosol and it tends to spread everywhere in your bathroom. The other thing I am a little bit concerned with is the color, which seems a little too black(in applying Toppik and Caboki you could still see a good amount of my grey hair which adds to the realism, but Prothik tends to cover that. Some of the grey has come back through over the days though). I also wonder if a lighter color would help. I am using Black/Brown, which I guess is a lot like dark brown, which is what I use with the other concealers and it works well with them, but I am wondering if Prothik has a medium brown which may actually be closer to dark brown. I will have to check on that.

Oh, I should add that I use a neck pillow on top of a regular pillow, so my head never really touches the regular pillow. So the concealer that was on the regular pillow must have been loose concealer. There was some on my neck pillow as well though.
But I am just saying, I don't know how Prothik would hold up if my whole head was pressing against the pillow all night. So if you use only a regular pillow, you may have other results.
