I am a 22 year old male. I weight train 6 days a week. I consume protein powder with some creatine in it as well, i recently quit all of this because of the balding. I started finasteride 5 days ago and quit working out all together because i am scared of the increase of balding because i do not know how i will react to finasteride. Should i say **** it and get back into the gym or wait and see how my body reacts to finasteride? Also what are your views on protein powders, supplements that supposedly do not convert to DHT and creatine (which can accelerate hairloss from what I've read).

Not sure about creatine but please do not quit weight lifting. It has nothing to do with your balding. Protein powder is fine too. The only thing that would make your balding worse is steroids. Natural lifting will not. Creatine barely makes a difference so you can drop it for now until you can get a definitive answer.

Doesn't weight lifting increase testosterone which is bad for hair?

Be an obese mother**** then. You'll be sweaty, stinky, tired, ugly, celibate with no stamina but you'll be in peace knowing you can style your hair.

No. The increase in testosterone is not enough to make a difference in your balding. DHT is what causes baldness, it has to be converted from testosterone, and the difference is not great enough to contribute to DHT levels, especially if you are taking something like finasteride.

Spiking your testosterone, and DHT temporarily will not make any noticible let alone substantial difference.

I would resume taking creatine.

After 7 days of creatine loading, or a further 14 days of creatine maintenance dose, serum T levels did not change. However, levels of DHT increased by 56% after 7 days of creatine loading and remained 40% above baseline after 14 days maintenance (P < 0.001).
Dont take creatine, stick to lifting and protein powders.

There's a 56% increase in creatine without finasteride, which lowers DHT by ~70%.

At most, with creatine plus finasteride it's 1.56 * 0.30 = 0.47, still a 53% decrease in total DHT, and you'd be at a ~98% decrease with dutasteride.

Actually, it's probably even steeper than that in both cases.

Take creatine.

I've seen questionable things about creatine and some protein powders--I personally take an organic protein powder called Orgain (http://orgain.com/). Mix it with two cups of milk and three scoops and you have 47 grams of protein per shake. I take two on workout days and hit the rest of my protein intake through foods (lots of eggs, fish, ham, chicken). It costs about the same as regular whey powder, I pay $25 for 2lbs. From my experience, I felt that my hair got worse when I was taking Body Fortress Super Advanced protein. It could have just been in my head, but I've seen others suggest that some of the ingredients in higher end powders aren't good for those with male pattern baldness.

With that said, a hair transplant doctor I visited told me that protein shakes have no impact on hair loss.

I'm no expert, so certainly don't take my word as truth.

Testosterone is fine to take if you're on Finasteride. Quite safe.

I have been on 300-600mg testosterone for about a year n a half straight. Every few months I drop it to 250-300 then up it to 500-600mg.
Hair is perfectly fine.
