Proscar - Is it important to take same dosage every day?

Just started treatment with Proscar. But I`m having problems cutting the tablet into 5 pieces even with a pill cutter. The best I can do is 1\4 and the pieces are not of the same size. Could this be a problem?

Probably not. The dose/response relationship for finasteride is "flat". That is, a little works as well as a lot, within broad limits. So the exact daily dose doesn't matter much.

BTW, the drug company doesn't want you quartering proscar, so they make the tablets small and irregular. Anyway, do the best you can and don't worry about getting things exact.

I've been having the same questions. Thanks for answering. I use the generic proscar and it crumbles pretty easily when I'm trying to cut it; even w/ a pill cutter.

So, I usually end up with 2 solid quarters and 2 fragmented quarters. I'll eat the crumbs and dust hoping to get my full daily dose. :)
