Proscar-Finasteride

I've been taking half a Proscar 5mg 3 times a week as reccomended by a hair loss clinic.

I'm coming to the end of my supplies and want to buy some more--i've found this website which says that Finasteride is the generic drug of proscar and is much cheaper.

Are these the same drugs? Will they be have the same effect?

Hey,

Finasteride is the ingredient in both Propecia and Proscar.

Propecia is a brand name pill which contains 1mg of Finasteride. So 1 pill contains 1mg.
Proscar is a brand name pill which contains 5mg of Finasteride. So 1 pill contains 5mg.

I buy Proscar and cut it into 1/4s and so, take 1.25mg of finasteride per day. Yes, for some reason Proscar is cheaper to buy. It cost me $70CAD for 30pills which will last me 4 months.

If you're looking at generics:

Finpecia is the generic name for 1mg pills of Finasteride.
Fincar is the generic name for 5mg pills of Finasteride.
