Proposed regimen. Your thoughts?

So here are my thoughts.

I took finasteride over 5 years. Quit out of fear. No sides.

I took minoxidil for half a year (quit due to sides).

I'm thinking of restarting a new regimen but at different doses.

I want to take minoxidil 5% solution once a day at night. I plan on showering in the morning.

I would plan on taking generic proscars, splitting them into 8ths (.625 mg) and taking them daily at night.

I will use nizoral shampoo once a week.

Anyone have any arguments on why this regimen wouldn't work? Could I even scale it back any more?

You were on finasteride for FIVE FREAKING YEARS without sides and you decide to quit? I really don't understand that logic

Yes I was on finasteride a long time. New FDA warning labels, news media, and propeciahelp made me second think taking the drug long term. Started propecia at an early age and no one ever knew I was balding. Now my balding is very obvious to people and it would take a miracle to get my hair back to looking Normal. But I have no bald spots, just thinning. So the drugs could work well for me a second time.

It's been 3.5 years since I quit finasteride and I feel a lot more safe about taking the drug again. The studies point to its safety and the only things that seem to be a red flag that it's not safe are people online that have read too much on propeciahelp and have become so pyschologically affected from the horror stories that they can't even take a step back and think maybe the drug is ok.

Sure there are ongoing studies, lawsuits and what not but that is to be expected. I think when it comes down to it there are other life choices people make that are more dangerous, and worse for your health. That being said. I want to take the lowest dose of finasteride possible as well as the lowest dose of minoxidil (which caused more sides then finasteride). Your thoughts?

There is and always will be a risk for sides. It is up to you to decide if the potential of keeping your hair is worth the slight chance finasteride sides develop. Not only that, but you were on the drug for 5 years. I believe if you were prone to sides they would have most likely materialized by then.

Your fears are understandable, but given your history on the drug I would get back on it.

Yes I'm thinking that too. I'm mostly concerned with the minoxidil to be honest. Is it ok to take it once a day at night, shower in the morning / workout and what not. Is that enough? Or should I just skip on the minoxidil all together?

minoxidil once a day is fine and I think the lowest dose you could take of finasteride is .25. Just curious what sides were you getting from minoxidil?

minoxidil once a day is effective? My derm told me if you use it once a day it has no effect, you have to take it twice a day. But then again, I have no trust any more in derms.

I think I was over absorbing due to applying it to a wet scalp, or sun burnt scalp. Made me feel a little dizzy, couldn't run as hard, painful chest. I think if I take more care with it the second try around it might not be so bad.

You should consider adding an anti androgen like spironolactone cream if you start finasteride.
When you say sides on minoxidil, Water retention comes to my mind. Try using a diuretic like spironolactone or as benjt does, try green tea.
Best of luck
