Propecia's effect on minoxidil-grown hair

I'm currently on the 'Big 3' and have been for the past 7-8 months.

Just a quick question.. Once hair is regrown by minoxidil (either on the hairline or crown) can the newly grown hair be maintained by using Propecia alone or is it still dependant on minoxidil?

Recently I've noticed a few new hairs sprouting across my hairline and temples (nothing to write home about, but at least it's a foot in the right direction) which hopefully will grow in to terminal hairs. I presume this is the minoxidil taking effect..... however due to the positive effect Propecia has on your hair 'overall', surely it will be powerful enough to retain any hair regrown by other agents?

Depending on what results I get within the next 12 months, I'm thinking of dropping rogain completely and opting for Propecia for alone.

Any thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated....

my claim? do a search on here,minoxidil hairs become minoxidil dependent.

How about personal experience? Ten years ago before these boards were around I dropped minoxidil after 2 years of use thinking that the addition of the recently released Propecia was all I needed.

6 months later my hair was coming out by the handfull. Finasteride does NOT save minoxidil hair.

ahuh,ive read many stories like it too,Propecia and min work in completely different ways

Here's a scan of the full article that Harold just cited (scroll half-way down the page to the second study), which is a case-history of a patient who got worse after stopping topical minoxidil, even though he continued to use finasteride.

Notice that they say near the end: "So far, all of our patients who interrupted their minoxidil treatment and continued using finasteride have experienced worsening of Androgenetic Alopecia."

so once you guys stopped using minoxidil and you lost the hair that you grew, did it come back once you starte using minoxidil again?

i would think you'd get at least SOME of it back
