Hello. ( I d'ont speak english very well, i hope you will understand me)

But since that I'm 15, i have a hypersecretion of sebum in my hair.
My hair had become curly, they look like straw.
I'm oblige to wash my hair twice a day !!!!

I went a lot of time to see a doctor, and i gave me a lot of kind of treatment, but it had never work.

My question is: Does Propecia work for my kind of Problem ???
Do you think that it could give me positive aspect ????

I'm ready to take it during the rest of my life if it can solve my problem.

Thank you

Greetings... your English is very good, I understand you completely.

I think I have a better suggestion for you. Start using Nizoral shampoo 2 or 3 times a week. Let the shampoo sit in your hair for about 5 minutes before rinsing it out, and follow with a conditioner.

I am not sure what country you live in, but Nizoral is normally something you can pick up either at a grocery store here in the US, or you can usually find it at a drug store/chemist. When you look for Nizoral, make sure it has 'Ketoconazole' in it as the active medication.

What has your doctor prescribed for you? I am curious what he told you to do.

Ok, thanks for your answer.

I'm from france.
I used to take cysteine B6 and item alpha cade shompoo. I did this during 1 year.
I don't know Nizoral shampoo but i'll ask my doctor.

Concerning Propecia, any idea about ???

If Propecia isn't usefull for me, i guess it cannot be negative, so maybe i could try it for 6month and stop if it doesn't work.
What do you think about that ?

The Important ingredient in Nizoral is 'Ketoconazole'

The Normal concentration is 1% or 2% Ketoconazole.

It should be ok, it is not recommend for people younger than 18 years old.
But you are 18, so should be ok.

If you do get side effects (most people do not get side effects) you can stop and the side effects with dissapear.

It is cheaper to buy Proscar.

Same manufacturer (Merck)

Same drug, but 5mg not 1mg.

Propecia = 1mg finasteride
Proscar = 5mg finasteride

If you are going to use 1mg you buy Proscar and cut into 5 pieces, 1 piece every day.

How was my french?

Open question to EVERYONE

If someone without Hair loss goes on a 6 month course of propecia and then stops will they experience a shed? Sorry if this sounds stupid, just an idea.

Maxel, just to better understand your condition, I interpreted your first message to say that you do not have any hairloss, but you are mostly experiencing too much sebum and your hair quality is not good. If that is the situation, I think your problem would be better addressed using some very commonly found medicated shampoos.

I mentioned Nizoral because studies show it reduces sebum production and thickens hair diameter. I am not sure how you would get it in France, but here in the US it is not something you have to go to your doctor to get, you can buy it at the chemist. Nizoral is a brand name, so if you can't find it then you might want to look through the shampoo section at your local store or chemist to find a shampoo that has 'ketoconazole' in it.

Nizoral would be preferable, but you might also want to consider trying Neutrogena T/Gel, if you can find it.

I wouldn't use Propecia unless you are actually losing your hair, or if your hair is getting so thin that you begin to start seeing the scalp through your hair in the areas of the head where men normally start to go bald, the 'spot' in the center back, or in the temples, corners of the forehead.

Best of luck... let us know how you proceed, and how things go.

I have already tried medicated shampoo without any results. That is the reason what i'm now looking for a strong product like propecia.

Sorry, I didn't undestdand. I don't know what a shed is . and neither does my dictionary. :hairy:

Thanks you both. I have a rendez-vous with my doctor on thusday. I'll ask her about propecia and Nizoral

Shed = to lose hair from your head.

When people with male pattern baldness (male pattern balding) stop medications to treat hair loss (like propecia) they can lose more hair than normal as their hormones adjust to the new enviroment.

Look at the yellow line in this graph, this is for minoxidil but the same applies to finasteride (propecia)
