Propecia to Avodart, hair thickens ?

Hi guys, Ive been asked to enquire about avodart here as I am considering making the swtich..

Ive given my story here before but just wanted to know if anyone has seen any benefits in terms of hair thickness on avodart.

With Propecia (and mninox, 12% 1 ml day), Initially I had good results for the first 6 monhts. My hair has gradually gone thinner over three years (each hair) even though hair loss has slowed down- i am still losing it- espeically near the temples, the 'V' (hairlines) bits and the crown has gone finer. Will avodart thicken these hairs and totally stop the loss?

Also has anyone benefited from such a switch from propecia to avodart- please let me know?

At present, my hair is much better than what it was even before i started the treatment 3 years ago, but is slowly falling.

Please help

Thanks again

Hello mate,

Your situation is very similar to mine. Are you a 'client' at the London Belgravia Centre (judging by that you use the 12.5% minoxidil.)

For my first 4-6 months hair was pretty stable but has gradually receded over the last 4 months. I'm considering dutasteride as well but am concerned at the shedding around the temples.

I think that generally these hair loss drugs (mainly finasteride & dutasteride) are essentially for the crown area and any regrowth at the front is a bonus.

Since taking a break from propecia (for the last 2/3 weeks I did feel a bit of a shed (lost some front hairs on my hairline) my hair hasn't really changed - prob due to the fact its only been a couple of weeks, but I am taking saw palmetto now.

I think I'll get back on finasteride if my hair starts to deteriorate and add dutasteride as well. Everyone gets different results so its really hard to judge how you'll react to dutasteride - results wise and side effects wise.

I asked a tricologist at the Belgravia Ctr about taking dutasteride, and they said essentially it would block more DHT but obviously there's a risk of sides.

Sorry if I've gone off on a tangent a bit!

Hey mate!

Well let me start by saying congrats for winning the mickey mouse cup :p

JUst messing...

Yeah thats the centre. Ive been on that for nearly 3 years now. And temples look not as good as before. I am considering dutasteride, but The centrew charge sh*t loads of money! I mean the Xhandrox lotion is the same I think and im thinking about packing in the centre full stop.

I want to switch to dutasteride and have the xandrox lotion and a 5% lotion too.

I hope thats ok. Can you take dutasteride and finasteride together/???

you can take finasteride and dutasteride together, but i doubt finasteride will help much if your on dutasteride as well.

Hey Dani!

Thanks for the sentiments. Admittedly it is the least important trophy (bar the Charity Shield) but we've gone so long without silverware it means a lot to us. Hammering Arsenal and silencing Chelsea was pretty enjoyable in particular :jump:

Got hammered today though which I'm not happy about :shakehead:

Yeah I think I'll give dutasteride a try. My male pattern baldness seems so strong that finasteride seems to be too weak to stop it effectively. Let us know what you do re the dutasteride and the bel gravia ctr. The place is an absolute rip off!!

Lorddutasteride - can you give us any advice on dutasteride please mate - ie; shedding, results...

Cheers

Hey Berbs,

For your info Im a 'pool fan, lols, dont start...lols

Yes mate, That centre is a rip off and I would like to sort out the hair probs using other means. Hair loss is signifcant at present but it did stabilise a bit with propecia and the 12.5%.

Now, after 3 years of slower loss, I am thinking about switching to dutasteride and supplement this with Xandrox 12.5% which I think is MUCH cheaper than the 12.5% topical they offer and is alomost the same in terms of Aleic acid and Minoxidl! And with this I will also add a 5% topical minoxidil. What do you think?

I am thinking about buying dutasteride and the solutions from the minoxidil site and also get the dutasteride from united pharmacsies.

What are you planning on doing and whats your regimen?

Hi Dimi,

Sorry for the late reply.

My regimen for the last 9/10 months has been:

Propecia 1mg per day
12.5% minoxidil & azelaic acid
Hairmax laser comb 3x per week

The results were pretty stable from about May - November 2007, but since then I have noticed quite a bit of shedding around the temples. I hadn't much regrowth to begin with so I don't think I'll regrow the shedded areas on propecia. So over the last couple of weeks I've laid off the propecia (and run out of minoxidil) to see if a natural route could give me better results (I had slowing down of hairloss a couple of years ago with natural supplements)

However, although its only been 2/3 weeks my hair at the temples seems a bit weaker and baby hairs are becoming more fine. This has led me to the conclusion that propecia, while slowing down loss, wasn't potent enough to stop it. Hence my reasoning for looking to get on dutasteride.
Furthermore, all my older bros have suffered male pattern baldness and one has been on propecia since he was 21. He's now 29 and although it has slowed thinning (particularly on top), he's still losing it - another reason why I want to try dutasteride.

I'm pretty fed up with paying extortionate prices at the Bel.gravia Ctr when products are so much better value on the internet.

I'm gonna order some dutasteride (Dutas though, not Avodart which is very expensive) and complement this with rogaine extra strength.

Whats this Xandrox stuff? Does it have minoxidil & azelaic acid?

What stuff are you gonna get on and which sites are you buying from?

Cheers - good win for pool btw :)

Thats cools mate..lols. 4th place and CL winners will do me fine, plus I hope DIC takeover from HICKS!

Right heres the deal. I have quite a similar story to yours! And thankfully to these forums I think my only real option could be dutasteride or Avodart.

Im thinking you shouldnt have laid of the finasteride or minoxidil as this can cause you to loss the hair you have stabilised or regrown,or better still get into your new regime quickly.

Now at present both of us have been on this Minoxidil 12.5 and Propecia. Obvously the propecia has had some infleunce on the hair loss but not enough which means dutasteride/avo is a realistic option. So with this first, we do we get it from? I am also confused with regards to the generic form and normal avo, as Ive lost some ground I dont want to be taking somthing which is a fake or a bad imitation! So thats one issue. Ive heard of some places called inhousepharamcy or unitedpharamcies which seem reliable.

Secondly, if I leave the BC then I will also need to find a source of minoxidil. Ive heard a lot about Some guy called DR Lee and his website is minoxidil .... On there they have a 12.5% solution, with 5% alzeic acid in a 125 ml bottle which ships out for about 50 quid! Check it out Im contemplating that one at the moment , I think its real but I am looking further into this.

So that would cover the minoxidil and the dutasteride/avo issues. The only other real hope is for some other hair loss breakthroguh to surface.

Thats my planned route anyhow. But still a bit cautious

Hey Dani,

Re your point about me stopping finasteride - you're right I guess. I was venting my frustration on other posts about the shedding behind my hairline, but was reasonable pleased with the fine hairs I had on the hairline. Since these are minituarizing while I'm not on finasteride, I want to get back on a routine as quickly as possible.

I've ordered the following:

Dutas tablets
Rogaine extra strength
Nizoral 2% (generic) shampoo

The dutas will be with me in 7-14 days which I'm a little peeved about as the pharmacy is in the UK - so I don't know why delivery is gonna take that long.
The minoxidil I ordered 2 weeks ago, but the online pharmacy has told me there has been a shortage of minoxidil and I might not have it till April!
I'm pretty pissed off about this so I've decided for the next month I'm gonna get a supply from the Bel.gravia Ctr. I know its expensive but I want to get back on meds quick.

If you read a thread I poster about generic brands of dutasteride the guys that have used dutas on here all reckon its very similar to Avodart, so I think it's a good product and a lot cheaper than Avodart.

Re: doctor Lee's products - I think they're pukka. People on here have used them and I've never read negative feedback about him. Could you let us know what links you use for 12.5% xandrox/minoxidil?

I got my dutas & nizoral from the following link - check it out

http://www.unitedpharmacies.co.uk/Hair_ ... 1_c_3.html

I'm hoping for a breakthrough in hair multiplication. There's a few co's working on it so I think it'll become available in a few years - but for now we've gotta make do with what we have.

Take it easy mate

Berbs,

Rogaine extra strength is 5% ! Youve been using 12.5% topical so youre stepping down. I think you might want to reconsider getting that. The website is Minoxidil.*** , im assuming you know the last three common terms for a wbesite and the solutions or lotions are Xandrox 12.5%. Once youre on that website click on UK, and then they give you the shipping detials etc. I am hoping thats a legit website. The lotions are Xandrox

Hope that helps, Im gona order my batch of dutasteride soon, as I have some Propecia left.

Hi Dani,

I take your point about stepping down. The reason I was gonna go on 5% minoxidil is because I had the idea that the 12.5% was too aggressive. Since coming off propecia a few weeks ago and going on less aggressive stuff I now realise that the stronger stuff is best. I'm a bit annoyed since I've lost some baby hairs which made my hairline appear thicker. Got back on finasteride today though with 12.5% from the B. Ctr so I'll use this until my dutasteride arrives.

That looks a legit website - slightly amateurish but ok I think. I'll post an article to see if anyone knows about it.

Have you ordered your stuff yet and if so, what?

Hey Berbs,

I e mailed Dr Lee and I managed to get a quick response!

He says the xandrox 12.5 % lotion is basically 125 mg/g in the lotion. Now that seems as if it is identical to the one BC prepare, however, he said he does not even know what the BC is?!?! The xandrox works out to be 50 pounds- FOR 4 MONTH SUPPLY! That is 125 ml, compared to the 30g given by the BC. So I will probably make this swtich, the only downside is he does not know if the solutions are different, but im quite sure that both have the same quantities of minnox and AA. Ive contacted United pharmacies for dutasteride/avodart to get a qoute etc.

Hope all is well with you

Head office might be in the UK but the meds will be shipped from elsewhere, probably a S. American or Asian nation.
