Propecia..stopped working?

Hi. I've been using propecia with nizoral shampoo for over a year now. I did find my hair loss had stabilized but now past the one year mark I seem to be experiencing more noticeable hariloss/shedding.

Is this a normal shedding period? Is it possible the propecia isn't effective anymore, that somehow I've become "immune" to it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Propeica tops out on effectiveness at some point and you may have reached that point.

Are you using minoxidil. It will help and keep using the propecia too.

Thanks for the reply. I did try minoxidil originally but found it to be a pain to use and that's why i moved to the propecia. I'd defenitely prefer to not start using it again and was under the impression that propecia was the best product out there! Does this mean that the propecia is now useless to me? Is it now ineffective or could this be some type of shedding phase again which will be followed by regrowth. Am I just being optimistic now?

Propecia and minoxidil work together but function differently. Propecia is best for getting to the root of the problem, slowing DHT that is attacking your hair follicles. It is possible that the propecia has reached a peak, like brucelee said, and it not as effective as once before. You will probably notice that if you add minoxidil while on the propecia that the minoxidil will be much more beneficial then when you used it alone and will probably grow more hair. So i would recommend getting on minoxidil 5% along with the propecia.

shiit :( im so young and started using propecia, to hear someone say it stopped working for them just after a year is a bit depressing.

i thought some people used it for like 7+ years? how long has everyone else been using it for? does it peak off for everyone or just some people?

also, if it peaks off, can another dht inhibitor b used in its place? thanks.

Personally, i'm still hoping that i'm just experiencing some kind of shedding phase or something similar to that (which often happens shortly after starting on the propecia). If it has actually stopped working, then i'm going to start freaking. which will be soon if i don't see less hair in my hands when i'm showering anytime soon. i really don't want to start using the minoxidil, which i found to be a big pain the *** before.

also remember, that for those who DO have sheds on propecia, that the sheds happen in stages. Many have sheds for the 1st several months, followed by sheds at the 8th..then 11/12th months..

Does this sound like what you experienced or no?

Thanks for the reply. I'm a few months over the one year mark, maybe 14th or 15th month and have recently experienced maybe 2 weeks of shedding, which is still ongoing. I'm hoping though that it is just a stage so i was hoping to hear that others have also experienced the odd shedding period while on propecia. Hopefully it is just a normal phase like you mentioned. Thanks.

Once again guys, look to the clinical data for the answers to your questions first, not here! :)

The clinical data tells us that well over 70% of people who saw results after 1-2 years of use on Propecia, continued to have results (hair count maintenance or increase) after SEVEN years. Things plateaued at the 2-3 year mark and began to gradually drop off ... only minimally .... in the 4 to 5 years following that. Minimally meaning it went from 83% effectiveness to 75% of people seeing the same or better results.

Plateauing is also not typically manifested in loss of effectiveness. It would imply lack of continued improvement. You wouldn't lose anything.

Hair cycles in growth and resting phases anyways. This is very common. Many people go through "sheds" during treatment. Ride it out. It will come back.

According to the clinical data, Propecia, all by itself is sufficient to maintain and increase hair count in the VAST MAJORITY of men. Ride out the shed. If it lasts longer than a month or two, consider adding Rogaine. If not, you shouldn't need to add anything at this time. Things should continue to improve even if you stay on Propecia alone in the coming months. Make sure you're using Nizoral.

"Immunity" is an incorrect term created on some of these web forums by users who didn't fully understand how hair loss treatment works.

If you think it has stopped working, maybe increasing the dosage will help. Sometimes your body may need a kick.

Hi again. To update on things: With the renewed shedding i noticed my scalp also itching alot. I decided to start using Folligen, which was recommended on this site. I've only been using the Folligen (while still taking the propecia) for 2.5 weeks, so it's a bit early to report much. The scalp itching seems to have settled a bit though.

I'll keep updating progress though............
