Propecia for four months

Okay so for the past year or so Ive been noticing gradual recession and slight thinning at the temples... so about 4 months ago I decided to start taking finasteride by cutting fincar (5mg finasteride) into fourths, and taking this every day. It seems like this was a BAD idea because a few weeks after taking it I began to experience accelerated hair loss all across my scalp, even in areas not usually effected by male pattern baldness. Four months later my hairline is more or less the same as it was four months ago, but overall my hair is MUCH thinner than it was previously.... and as I said it is thin even in areas not normally effected by male pattern baldness. I experienced relatively mild sexual side effects from the medication if it matters. Anyway I'm not entirely sure what to do... I was thinking about stopping the medication. Any suggestions are welcome

Oh and the thinning isnt visibly noticeable to other people... however it's noticeable to me because I'm familiar with how thick my hair used to be. At this point I don't feel comfortable growing out my hair because it's so thin, so I've resorted to keeping it about 2 inches long on top, and cropped closer on the sides. It still looks good, BUT if the thinning continues at this rate, I'll have no choice but to shave it. At 20 years old I would much rather just completely shave my head then sport a thinning pate. I mean honestly if it comes to that, I dont really mind doing it... but obviously I would prefer having hair. I'm starting to think that this whole thing was a bad idea, but its hard to say.

So... I'm thinking I may have DUPA as the entire left side of my scalp above the ear is thinning... this isn't occurring on the right side of my scalp (at least it's not as noticeable).

Eh...

I might just stop taking the medication honestly. For one I have a girlfriend now, and while I was on finasteride I was experiencing mild sexual side effects, which while mild were still annoying... and all of this sounds like a huge pain in the ***..

Holy crap I had no idea the finasterdie/propecia was so scientific with this level or that level of whatever you were talking about. I guess I am lucky the the finasteride seems to be working for me (slowly) but maybe I should see about a blood test or two and see if I can maximize growth.

Um, no.

4 months is no where near enough time to evaluate anything about finasteride. Keep taking it. It WILL cause you to shed hairs. Typically, shedding is a sign that the medication is working. If you stop, you'll probably not regain what you've shed (finasteride is a commitment, you should know that from your research).

Take it for another 8 months and then tell us what your hair looks like.

If whatever side effects you felt have disappeared, continue at 1 to 1.25 mg.

I've done my research and not one of the sources I've read mentioned hair loss from sheds not returning if the user stopped taking the medication. Also I can definitely tell you that I've loss a lot of hair in non male pattern baldness areas... I have been taking 1 to 1.25 mg and Ive been experiencing annoying sexual side effects... it's hard to say where I would be in terms of hairloss now, but I doubt things would be this bad...
