Hey guys I have recently started taking propecia, and my hair loss is not noticible by anyone, but i have noticed my hair has slightly receded at the temples. If I continue to take Propecia, will it both stop and regrow my temples? Also, should I take Nizorol shampoo as well? I'm not going to buy Rogaine because i have no hair loss on the crown of my head. Thansk for your help fellas :)

First off, good first step by getting on propecia. That could be the smartest move you make in retaining your hair. Second, the temple area is harder to address than the vertex but not quite so hard as the hairline. Both propecia and minoxodil do work on the temple area. However, they are more effective on the vertex (back of the head). Third, propecia works best at retaining the hair you already have. The process of male pattern baldness is a process of miniaturization, the hair follicles slows become thinner and shorter until they are no longer visible. Propecia works to lengthen and thicken the hair you still have. While propecia has been known in some cases to regrow hair in the vertex and mid scalp area and many users have reported regrowth in the front also. however, this is the excpetion rather than the rule. In summary, be patient and give propecia at least 1 year to work its magic. You may see some regrowth but more than likely you will simply maintain what you have. If you really feel you need to regrow some hair, add in minoxodil. However, you should give propecia enough time to tell if it will regrow any hair for you. Finally, In answer to your second question, yes adding in nizoral was a good move. the scalp often becomes irritated and enflamed in response to the male pattern baldness. Nizoral will combat this and make your current treatments more effective. Also, Nizoral has been known to show regrowth in some cases. Hope this has helped. If you have any more questions let me know.

I'm seeing regrowth on my temples with the Big 3. It's not long terminal hairs yet, but they're dark and clearly seen when wet. At this rate it'll be another 6 months and a few more hair cycles before I can really claim success.

Also, for the most part, I have thick hair that is covering most of my head, (except the temples). When I am taking Propecia, what will my shedding be like? does shedding only affect where I am balding? Or will my whole head shed regardless of wheather or not I am losing hair in that area? Is it possible to go on Propecia and have it effectivly work, but never really experience any noticible shedding? Thanks for the help

Glad to bring hope to some of you.

You may follow my struggle in the "tell your story section". Many pics there to check.

Ive had GREAT results with Propecia. Near 100% recovery.

Usually, for the Norwood-Hamilton like hairloss (classic male pattern baldness), there is only little help from finasteride for the temple area.

Hawaii male's type of hairloss (I've checked his thread) seems not to be the norwood-hamilton male pattern baldness, it looks more like hairloss of the scheme of Ludwig (http://www.haarerkrankungen.de/therapie ... muster.htm), which is known as the female type of hairloss. Anyway, 20% of all men suffering hairloss belong to this group and it is a fact that these guys usually respond better to treatments.

You can easily see that Hawaii male never had "real temples", he had thinning all over the top of his head.

I'm not saying that there is no help from finasteride @ temples. Everyone reacts different; for some it does help, for others it doesn't.

Give it a try & good luck.

Not everyone sheds on propecia, in fact, the majority of people do not shed. Propecia is probably working whether you are shedding or not shedding, unless you have been shedding for quite a period of time. Propecia works in 83% of men so chances are good that you will be one of them. It's unlikely that you will grow your temples, but i'm a nw2.5 or so and i'm using minoxidil and nizoral to try to grow mine back but all i seem to have is peach fuzz. Propecia is more of a maintaining than growing pharmaceutical.
