I'm 22 y/o NW2 with now early frontal thinning. I got on Propecia 3 1/2 months ago and so far no results whatsoever but nothing got worse either. I know it may take up to 1 year to see your results but I been reading at the 8th or 9th month mark you should already see a majority of your results. If that's really true, should I have seen at least a little something by now? I know your hairs just won't pop out or become magically thicker in that time out of the blue!?

sometimes finasteride may not do anything at all, yes sad but true.

the only thing left is say is that DHT is clearly not the only factor when it comes to hairloss but this is known already.

DHT isn't the only factor but it's afterall it is a the "key factor" of male pattern baldness. I know sometimes people just get to maintain their hair but no regrowth so what about that timeline, any clue how it works?

Hard to say as everyone's hair grows at a different rate. You have to take into account the initial 'shedding', assuming you experience it, and the time taken for the new hair to grow out to match your existing hair length. Again, that's assuming you get new hair growth. But you're generally looking at month 6 - 9 onwards where you can feel and visibly see the difference. If you keep your hair buzzed short then obviously you will 'see' the difference much faster.

For myself, 2 months after starting finasteride, i realized my hair started growing crazily fast. It hadn't been that way for quite a loong time already and when i went to my stylist, she confirmed that my hair's growth rate went up by abit. Even then, my hair was still kinda thin.

I've been on finasteride for 13 months already and glad to say that it not only maintained but thickened my existing hair. I don't think i've had new hair growing from the bare places though but that's ok i guess.
I am 'suffering' from the post-op minoxidil shed ATM, patiently awaiting for the new hair to grow out.. its a test of patience :)

Well here's my story...everybody keeps talking about that shed from Propecia. I didn't have that shed although I always shed about 100-150 hairs a day which is normal but half or so are thinner and shorter hairs so I guess those are the miniaturized ones, but I have not noticed one thing since started Propecia and that's now 3 1/2 months (nothing worse or better). Although a few tiny hairs did pop out on my temples where it's totally bare you know the place where you have that V shape.

I noticed a little thinning in the front 7 months ago and a few months later after noticing this I started Propecia. So since that hair loss is very fresh shouldn't it be restored? And on top I have a weak male pattern baldness family history only father and mom's brother. Father has NW5 at age 64 and uncle NW3 at 40, everybody else with great hair so my genes shouldn't be aggressive I assume and hope.

well i'm the same boat you are my friend. i have weak male pattern baldness history in my family as well, the only person who was bald was my grandfather on my mother's side. my grandfather on my father's side passed away with a thick head full of hair as well as a teenage hairline, no 'mature' hairline there. my father is in his late 50's and his hair is still all black with a few grays poppin' in here and there. i just turned 26, noticed thinning in the crown about 5 months ago, freaked out and hopped on propecia. went thru the initial shed which was freaking hell, i remember large clumps of hair in the drain after i would shower on a daily basis, i counted about 200 one day. but now about 4 1/2 months in on propecia and i must say that my hair loss has slowed in a dramatic fashion. no more clumps in the drain, although i still do shed when i shower it's usually about 10 or so and not really a cause for a big concern as it was when i first hopped on propecia. now i'm hoping and keeping my fingers crossed for regrowth in the next few months. i'm on propecia everyday and nizoral 2-3 times a week.
