Propecia and low testosterone

I just got my blood work back and omg my testosterone levels are in the toilet and im really freaking out. I didn't have them checked before i started Propecia so idk whats normal for me but they are so low its 167 wtf! Im scared now. Idk what to do. Total is 167 free is 16 what the f*ck?? Im 34. erections were fine, energy was fine. I somehow got a uti also. Whats happening??? Is this from Propecia?? Im so scared now what do i do? Do i just stop taking Propecia? Slowly taper off? Or ride it out and get re tested? I dont want to lose my hair, i cant handle it. It just f#ckin breaks me. I have no self confidence and so much anxiety and depression about hair loss and my loss is so minor at this point. Please help me if you know anything about this or experienced this. I felt good and hair was improving now this. Im so sad

also my sex hormone binding globulin is at 79 11-80 is normal so what the hell?

i know im freaking out but im scared bad things are gonna start happening with it so low. Also this urinary tract infection is weird since ive never had one prior in 34 years. Now 6 weeks on Propecia i have one and the pain\pressure isnt going away after 5 days on antibiotics... Im scared ill have to quite Propecia and that possibly its hurting me somehow. I keep thinking "Propecia help" omg i was terrified for 2 years to take this medicine and now here we go medical problems

honestly i dont really know. A bit higher free testosterone is possible from what my Propecia dr. Said. Just didn't expect anything that low

Web md says study shows methadone lowers testosterone dramaticly in men only. The study was 1000 men their testosterone was 1\4 th that of men not on any opiod. Thats crazy. maybe Propecia isnt to blame. I just dont know . I just dont want to become one of those Propecia help folks!

i know and im done looking online. I just took my Propecia (2 hrs later than normal) and im gonna try and calm down. Ahhhhh deep breath lol i take methadone also and apparently it can dramaticly lower testosterone... So im just gonna chill and make a couple trips to the doctors

You need to relax. I know that is easier said than done, try deep breathing and meditation. From your comments it sounds like you have nocebo, don't read propeciahelp. I checked with 2 primary care doctors as well as 2 dermatologist and all assured me finasteride is pretty safe, which Is why I am starting today. If you are unlucky and get sides, stop and they should go away.

I plan on putting it out of my mind, and stopping if I get any sides, I think you should do the same. Are you getting sides or reading propeciahelp and driving yourself insane? What is the point of getting your T levels tested if you don't have a baseline from before you started treatment?

Propecia increases testosterone if anything. If you're not feeling crappy with low test symptoms (low energy, low libido etc) then there's nothing to worry about.

i dont read Propecia help. I know all about nocebo also. My testosterone levels are in the toilet. I dont think my mind can do that. I know what Your saying tho. If you read other posts from me, ive tried to assure people that Propecia is safe as well. That said something is tanking my testosterone....

i didn't think to test before i started idk why. And its the fact they are SO low. They arent just a few points low

You didn't say what your DHT level is. Testosterone should have gone up if finasteride is working as less gets converted. You have to be careful as you don't want to boost testosterone now to compensate which could also boost DHT. I would stay on Propecia, you said your hair is getting better, you were probably very low before Propecia or else you would have noticed a huge change in your libido.

yeah i guess they didn't do dht. I assumed that would be a part of your testosterone test, ive never had one before. I will make sure its checked next test in a few weeks. I dont think Propecia is to blame anymore. I believe it is the methadone i take and have taken for years. It just caught me off guard. I was terrified to start Propecia for 2 years and everything was going great, minus some ball and pelvic pain(mild) so when i saw those numbers i freaked out, ill admit it haha

I'm 34 and a year ago I had a UTI (no fun at all), I was not on finasteride when I got that UTI as I only started finasteride 8 weeks ago. I believe I got my UTI from going out drinking and then catching a train and holding my pee in for a good 30 mins when I was absolutely bursting to go, as the next afternoon I had the UTI.

Point being it won't be finasteride, if it was something that finasteride causes then the side effects sheets would happily list it, I mean a UTI is not as drastic as the some of the other side effects they list, so don't think for 1 minute that it was caused by finasteride.

I think it is definitely due to the methadone too, it drops testosterone to a quarter of normal. They should have told you about that but then nothing surprises me anymore.

Hey thanks everybody. That was cool how you guys replied. I feel pretty good overall on Propecia, but id be lying if i said im still not at least moderately concerned about being on it. Its only been 6 weeks. So im hoping as time goes on and i feel good i wont even think about taking Propecia. Thanks again everybody

yeah uti blows lol ive never had one before. How long did it take for your to go away completely? Today is day 7 of antibiotics (cipro) i still have a lil pain or pressure like i guess about where my bladder would be. Everything online says " most people feel better 2 days on antibiotics" lol of course... And of course my mind goes to, its not the uti anymore, its Propecia pain!! Stupid brain! Who needs it! Lol thanks for replying man

I got my UTI on a Friday afternoon, by the time it really kicked in it was Friday night so I figured I'd wait till Monday then go see my GP, come Monday morning I started to feel a lot better so I never went to my GP in the end, but really I wish I still had of gone to my GP, as antibiotics would of been a better course of action in hindsight.

7 days does seem a long time, but I assume it's not as bad as initially? i.e. where you literally can't sleep for the pain of wanting to go to the toilet every single second of the day. If it's a lot better than it was, then try not to worry too much and finish the antibiotics. If you still feel bad by Monday then then I would hit up my Doctor.
