propecia and dutasteride combo- why not?

I am on the big 3 and still losing hair. I can afford to take merc proscar split into quarters and it would not be too much of a burden for me to buy some generic dutasteride. Because I am skeptical about the authenticity of generic dutasteride, to play it safe, i'd like to continue to take the proscar along with the dutasteride.

Aside from the potentially harmful effects to my body that go along with dutasteride, does anyone think that the combo might have negative effects on my hair???

Answers appreciated, i think this is a question many people have.

Both drugs do the same thing, their effect on DHT suppression would be additive.

i understand that, but would there be any risk that i would be doing my hair a disservice by using both?

i cannot see how finasteride + dutasteride would be significantly more damaging to my health then just dutasteride. can you?

Higher DHT suppression = higher incidence of side effects.

If finasteride didn't help you, you can try to increase the dose..maybe to 2.5 mg a day. Or switch to dutasteride but don't take it together, you will suffer from side effects most likely. dutasteride itself blocks type I and II of the enzyme and it is more effective than finasteride alone.

re:

You have all the answers you need on this thread but I will rehash them. Adding dutasteride should have an added effect on DHT reduction and thus help hair quality. This comes at the increased risk of sides and the hair benefit is most likely not exponential (i.e. doubling dosage does not result in a doubling of the positive effects to your hair). There is no research on finasteride+dutasteride and as you can see by the posts on this site, the effectiveness of dutasteride (and even finasteride) use varies from person to person.
You seem to be beating a dead horse with these questions. Upping the dosage of DHT blockers obviously can increase the amoutn of DHT blocked but this comes at the increased risk of short term and maybe long term sides. What else do you need to know? We are all just educated consumers and cannot tell you with 100% certainty that you will have a benefit from adding dutasteride as no one could tell you that. DHT appears to be a major cause of male pattern baldness but there appears to be other causes. You may lose hair no matter how many finasteride or dutasteride pills you take.
