Fair enough. Those are type of responses that convinces people. I'll continue to take finasteride though, because there are no scientific facts that proves long term danger of finasteride use. For now, M.D's and other healthy long term users are way more convincing than random reports.

there are no scientific facts that proves long term danger of finasteride use.

In one of the links I gave in previous msg -- viewtopic.php?p=463430#p463430 -- the FDA admits "the longterm effect of Finasteride on male fertility remains unknown."

Similarly, the UK's MHRA notes "the genetic and epigenetic effects of Finasteride treatment on sperm are unknown."

Considering the above statements from the official regulatory agencies in two major countries (UK, USA), I'd say the "long term danger of Finasteride use" (as you put it) remains UNKNOWN and has not been proven 100% safe, at all.

For now, M.D's and other healthy long term users are way more convincing than random reports.

Anecdotal internet forum posts may be convincing for you, but not for others. Everyone's entitled to their opinion though, so good luck to you if you want to continue with the drug as it's your health and your life. I wish you the best in your endeavours.

Like I said, there's a huge difference between unknown and confirmed. Propecia has been in use for a long time, and I'm going to trust my doctor/other healthy long term users. We'll see.. I feel pretty safe.

look i think its generally accepted that conceiving while using finasteride 1mg per day is safe. some peple are paranoid but so what, good for them.

the more interesting question is whats the deal with Dutasteride usage and conception? Any ideas about that?

Hi,

To all those currently using propecia (or other finasteride products). Before I start using, does it matter if you are on propecia with your wife/partner, I know it's bad for the unborn child if she touches the product after conception. . . . . . but if she gets pregnant from you, and you are on propecia, is the unborn in danger because she is impregnated by a man on finasteride?

Cheers guys.

Merk says she should not even touch the pills, but that is just to cover their butts in case of a law suit. Fact is injestion of 0.01 mg per day barely touches DHT levels. Finasteride is metabolized (broken down) very quickly. Very little would be in your semen. Compare one tea spoon to the volume of your whole body, and realize that the concentration in the tea spoon is much less.

If you have sex before your next finasteride dose, it would seem mathematically impossible for you to cause any damage. But don't quote me on that. Ask your doctor, and they will point you back to what Merk says so they don't get sued either.

Here is how court works:
It does not matter if a Doctor caused any damage. All that matters if if the jury is smart or not or just wants to award some money. So that is why experts cover their butts. That said, I'm not a doctor and have not recieved any money from you, so take my advice at your own risk.

So, we don't think there is any need for concern at all? DHT inhibition in males at young ages (including foetal ages! :) ) would be bad, but maybe it isn't really transferred in sperm, and if it was like, it would only last for a few days before it wore off anyway, so I would imagine the zygote would still be too small.

It would hurt the baby if the mother took the propecia.

The only danger with the father taking it is there is a small chance of him just shooting blanks as a result of taking it. I don't know the odds. It is probably a lot safer than avodart though. Avodart actually shrinks the prostate. Propecia just slows its growth or stops the growth.

It is a conspiracy. Finasteride was made by women to weed out the baldies from the gene pool. That is why so many baldies are not on it. They want to pass on their genes, not shoot blanks.

Cheers all.

I guess there is nothing to worry about then other than not being able to get it up at all to make her pregnant in the first place or having bigger boobs then her

I have it bought but still reluctant to take, this ever increasing recession of hair and aggressive bald spot might change all that though.

Well I never got any of those side effects either and just had my 3rd child. I also take 1 dutasteride (Dr Reddys) pill per week as well as finasteride (Teva Generic Proscar). I am not saying some people do not get sides , I do also know side effects are very real for a small minority of people who take ANY drug including finasteride and dutasteride but just wanted to state I never had any issues so others do not think that MOST people get sides and that it is in fact a small percentage that experience them.

Also if people are having side effects from any medication they for one should not be listening to people on a forum, they should quit taking the Meds and see their Doctor right away. Side effects are no joke.
